He appears to have left home prior to the 1900 census, however, and the Arthur Manire enumberated with Joel Manire, below, is likely a namesake nephew. Indeed, he is listed as a grandson, and not son, of Joel Manire.

A Memorial for the younger Arthur D. Manire is at FindAGrave (Memorial #44009208):

On this memorial, Arthur D. MANIRE (1 Sep 1878-23 Nov 1955) is shown as a son of Benajim F. MANIRE and Mary Adeline ELLISON. Benjamin is shown as a son of Joel James MANIRE and Elizabeth Mariah POATS, all of whom also have memorials on FindAGrave. Arthur's tombstone is engraved as Arthur D. Manire, and his shares a double marker with Ida Birtha Stone Manire (1887-1962). Additionally, the 1910 and 1920 census both show Arthur C. Manire would have been born ca 1871, not 1878.

There is also a FindAGrave memorial (# 20433020) for Arthur C. Manire, 20 Nov 1870-3 Nov 1949 at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, and this matches the Texas Death record index on FamilySearch.org.

    Notes:

CSA, Company A, 12th Texas Cavalry from Hill County, Texas. His first application for a pension, made in 1910, was rejected because they could not find his name in the rolls. It was approved in 1926. His brother's, G.A Hodges and L.C. Hodges, both of Sterling City, Texas stated they knew he served for three years. G.A. had served in the same company and regiment. An affadavit of witnesses, dated August 5, 1926 is signed by J.Williamson and Elmer Williamson. Elmer may be the son in law of John M. Gentry and J. Williamson could be either Jerry or his son Jason Williamson.

In HISTORY OF JOHNSON COUNTY, TEXAS, in a story about his father, it states that Benjamin was a farmer in Indian Territory. A Hodges descendant gave the names of the children to Lynell Cordell in February 1999.

His father was Newel Hodges and Theodocia Lindsey.

At the time of the 1910 and 1920 federal census enumerations, the widowed Benj. Hodges was living in the home of his son-in-law, also a widower, Arthur C. Manire.
