    Barbara K. Mason, age 76 of Hickman, NE formerly of York, NE died Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Hickman. She was born May 15, 1946 to Dale and Effie (Madison) Beck. On January 24, 1964 she was married to Darrell Mason at York. Barb was a longtime Dale's Electronics and Hamilton-Sundstrand employee. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and loved spending time with family and friends. In retirement, Barb enjoyed following Elvis Tribute Artists.

    She is survived by her son Todd (Betty) Mason, her grandchildren Jacob Mason and Emily Mason all of Firth. Her sisters, Mary (Bob) Fessler of Sutton, NE, Julie Miller of Carson City, NV and Vicki (Dale) Stilwell of York. Also surviving is her brother-in-law Jim Mason of York, special cousin Sheila Crays of Tobias, NE, and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Rex Miller, husband, brother Richard, and son Tim.

    Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Burial will be in York's Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8:00 pm Tuesday at the mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to her family for later designation.

    Effie Miller

    Effie L. Miller age 85 of York died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at York. She was born November 30, 1921 in rural Fillmore County, NE to Clarence and Mary (Hlina) Madison. In May of 1953, she was united in marriage to Rex Miller at Fairbury, NE. Effie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, cooking, gardening and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

    Left to cherish her memory are Rex Miller of York, four daughters, Barbara Mason of York, Mary and her husband Bob Fessler of Sutton, NE, Julie Miller of Carson City, NV, and Vicki and her husband Dale Stilwell of York, six grandchildren, Tim Mason of Lincoln, NE, Todd and his wife Betty Mason of Firth, NE, Darin Fessler of Lincoln, Tracy Fessler of Crete, NE, Jessica and her husband Josh Ericson of Aurora, NE, Jacob Stilwell of York, two great-grandchildren Jacob and Emily Mason of Firth. Also surviving is a sister Evelyn Elznic of Exeter, NE, one niece, two nephews, aunts and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, son Richard Beck, three brothers, Frankie, Jimmie and Leo, and one sister Alice Peterson.

    Funeral services were held Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Metz Chapel in York with LeRoy Hoyer officiating. Burial followed at the Arborville Cemetery near Polk, NE. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in York or the donor's choice.

    Mary Madison last rites held

    Mary Madison, daughter of Stephan Hlina and Anna (Krikava) Hlina, was born in Fillmore county, just west of Milligan, Neb. on September 18, 1887, and passed from this life at the Fillmore county hospital on April 10, 1975, at the age of 87 years, six months and 22 days.

    She married Frank Janda and moved to a farm south of Nelson, Neb. To this union were born three children, daughter Alice and two sons, who passed away in infancy.

    They lived on this farm till Frank's health failed. He passed away May 31, 1913.

    On November 12, 1919, she was married to Clarence Madison. To this union were born one son and two daughters, the son dying in infancy.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons and both of her husbands, one sister and two brothers.

    She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Claude (Alice) Peterson of Littleton, Col., Mrs. Effie Miller of York, Neb. and Mrs. Clarence (Evelyn) Elznic of Exeter, Neb., also eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ed of Eugene, Oregon, and William of Bossier City, La., one sister, Ella Hlina of Lincoln, Neb. and many relatives and friends.

    She was always willing and happy to help others in need of her assistance. Putting others first has always been a way of life for her and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

    Funeral services were held and the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Sunday, April 3 (sic), at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clifford Bahr, officiating.

    Mrs. Robert Stoldorf sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Going Home."

    Pallbearers were Albert Skala, Clifford Rippe, Tom Madison, Eugene Betka, William Watmore and Norman Ogden. Interment was at the Bohemian National cemetery at Milligan.

    Sharon Nemeth reports that after Frank Janda died, Mary Hlina remarried Clarence Madison on 12 Nov 1919 in Geneva (according to her obituary).
