Lieutenant McLemore was shot and killed after responding to the suspect's house to check on his welfare. The suspect was known to be mentally ill. When Lieutenant McLemore knocked on the suspect's door, the suspect shot and killed him with a shotgun. When back-up officers arrived the exchanged gunfire with the suspect, the suspect killed himself before he could be captured.

Mrs. Robbie Jane McLemore, 74, Athens, died Friday at a local hospital.

The funeral is today at 3:30 p.m. at the Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Sonny Kirk officiating. Burial will be in the Athens City Cemetery.

Mrs. McLemore was a member of the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Jackie Wilson McLemore of Athens; three daughters, Betty Joyce Richardson and Bobbie Ann Wilson, both of Athens, and Linda Faye Coleman of Elkmont; one sister, Mabel Shannon of Athens; one brother, Floyd Kirk of Athens; several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
