    Harold Dean Smith, age 78, of Fairdale, Texas went to his Heavenly home Friday, September 30, 2011. At the time of his death, he was at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

    Mr. Smith was born August 9, 1933, in Fairdale to Mabel and Earnest Smith.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Katie Mae Ladner Smith, his parents, and one brother, Royce Smith (FAG memorial #57257516).

    He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Keith Mauer of Evadale, Texas, granddaughter, Baylee Kate Smith of Hempstead, Texas, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

    Mr. Smith graduated from Hemphill High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. He taught one year in Hemphill and one year in Little Cypress. At Evadale ISD, he continued his career of teaching, coaching, serving as principal of the elementary and high school, and working as the Business Manager and Assistant Superintendent from 1957-1990.

    While living in Evadale, Mr. Smith was a member of Central Baptist Church. After retiring and moving back to Fairdale, he became a member of Fairdale Baptist Church.

    Mr. Smith enjoyed his family and friends, hunting, fishing, gardening and more recently, enjoyed corresponding with friends through email and Facebook. He especially enjoyed hosting an annual Fourth of July celebration at his home for numerous family members and friends.

    Visitation will be on Monday, October 3, 2011, from 4pm to 8pm at Central Baptist Church in Evadale.

    A second visitation will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from 12pm-2pm at Fairdale Baptist Church with funeral services following at 2pm.

    Officiates will be Brother Bo Owens and Brother Roger Hoogterp.

    Burial will follow at Mount Sinai Cemetery in Sabine County.

    Pallbearers will be Glenn Smith, Kevin Smith, Gary Williams, Roy Lynn Fling, Derry King and Keith Mauer.

    Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Mr. Smith's brother-in-laws.
