  1. 2.  Sam Houston Mason, Sr. was born between 1836 and 1837 in Texas (son of James Mason and Elizabeth ???); died on 28 Oct 1904.

    Notes:

Sam Houston Mason hauled freight to Louisiana, crossing at the ferry operated by his son-in-law, Bradford Carter. (White and Toole, p 41). His widow, Sarah Harrison Mason, applied for a Confederate Pension based on his service in June 1915, as a resident of Harris County, Texas. She was age 67, and had lived in Harris County one year at the time of the application. She stated that her husband, S. H. Mason, enlisted in Aug 1862 and was discharged in May 1865. He was in C. E. Lane's 1srt Tex Regiment C, Cavalry. She was indigent at the time she applied, and owned no property. Witnesses were G. W. Mooney and Effie Mooney. His pension application was approved. The proof of his service indicated he was actually part of Company E, 1st Regiment Partisan Rangers, and that he served from September 1862 through the Fall of 1864.
