    Notes:

His descendant, Sherilyne "Sam" Palmer wrote, in April 2013, that Samuel Henry was a blacksmith, like his father, Obediah Smith (wife Matilda UNKNOWN). Obediah and Matilda were in Logan Co, KY in 1840 Census and in 1880 Census. Samuel Henry Smith and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, moved to Texas by train in 1891, near Dallas. They lived in Dallas Co., and Tarrant Co. In 1896, they lived near Plano; in 1897-1899, a blacksmith in Rhome. Early 1900's a blacksmith shop in Farmer's Branch; 1901 in Denton. Their last child, Tate Lyle Smith, was born in/near Renner (?), TX in 1892. Their daughter, Lue Ella Smith, got sick while moving from Plano to Rhome and they stayed in a hotel in/near Grapevine. She died in the hotel (from T.B.?) in 1899. Samuel H. bought lots for all of them in Grapevine Cem. in 1899. (from his journal entries)

The registery of US Civil War Soldiers on Ancestry.com shows that Samuel H. Smith
was in the Union forces during the war, serving in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry, Company K, rank Blacksmith

    Samuel's siblings:
Francis Smith -- b. abt. 1838, KY; d. before 1880 Census; m. Dec 18, 1865 to Margaret McLemore Henderson, dau of Joel McLemore and Rachel Stinson; (she was a first cousin to Mary Elizabeth McLemore; Francis was her 2nd marriage); Margaret was widow in 1880 census with 3 children listed, Josephus 8, Margaret 6, and Beauchamp 3. Francis and Margaret were in 1870 Census, Logan Co, KY under Household of John W. Lamb and wife Mary. Lambs were neighbors to Obediah Smith (Frank's father). I believe that if Goodwin McLemore's wife was Mary Lamb -- her relatives were the neighbors to the Smith's and were the ones who took Hiram McLemore as a boarder when his parents, John and Caroline, died. An A. J. Lamb was witness to marriage of Francis Smith and Margaret McLemore Henderson.

Julia A. Smith, b. abt 1842, age 5 in 1850 Census; single and still at home in 1880 Census, Fillmore, Logan Co, KY.

Thomas Smith, b. abt 1844, age 6 in 1850 Census.

Columbus C. Smith, b. abt 1846, age 4 in 1850 Census; widower age 34 and with father's household in 1880 Census, Fillmore, Logan Co, KY.

Ben H. Smith, b. 1848, age 2 in 1850 Census; single and at home in 1880 Census, Fillmore, Logan Co, KY.

On the 1910 census she indicated she had given birth to 13 children in total, but only 7 were still living. Daughter Lue Ella died in 1899, the names of her other deceased children are unknown. They appear to have died at a very young age as their are only 9 children that have been identified through census or vital records.

    Notes:

    Married:
Descendant Sherilyne "Sam" Palmer noted that a family letter puts their date of marriage as Jan 16, 1861, as opposed to a website source indicating Jan 15, 1862.

    1. Thomas Obediah Smith was born on 14 Mar 1867 in Kentucky; died about 1939.

Generation: 4

  1. 14.  John McLemore was born about 1815 in North Carolina (son of Joel McLemore, Jr. and Temperence "Tempe" Goodwyn); died before 1860.

    Notes:

Assumed to be part of the "large family" raised by Joel and Temperence McLemore based on his age and census location. Not proven.

John and Caroline and their four children can be found on the 1850 census, but as of 1860 the family is no longer together. It appears likely that John and Caroline died prior to this date, and that their children were scattered among differing families in Logan County. Hiram D, the oldest, was a boarder in the Lamb home. John, the next eldest, was living with his first cousin, David J. McLemore. The two youngest, Mary and James, were living in the home of their presumed uncle, Goodwin McLemore.
