Larry McClain also posted the following note to the McLemore message board on GenForum in 2010:

"I am researching the ancestry of my gg grandmother, referred to by the family as Ellen McLemore , but a family member in the past in writing her name spelled it Ellender McLemore. She was born 1833-34 in Mississippi, probably Clarke County, where in about 1850 she married Allen Martin, also from Clarke Co. The Martin's eventually moved to Union Co., Arkansas sometime around 1860. I am suspicious that she could be the "Eleanor Jane McLemore" listed on some McLemore family trees, and the daughter of Amos McLemore and Elizabeth Johnston McLemore. Looking at naming patterns for her children, she named my g grandmother Elizabeth, and two more daughters Jane and Annie, and also a son - Albert. Any information is greatly appreciated."

    4. Jane H. Martin was born about 1857 in Mississippi; and died.
    5. Emmanuel Martin was born about 1859 in Mississippi; and died.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Norman Martin was born about 1798 in North Carolina; and died.

    Notes:

From the biography of his son, Edwin J. Martin "Norman Martin had previously married Anne Morrison, who bore seven children and who died in Georgia. Of the children of the first marriage three are living. Mr. Martin came from Georgia to Mississippi about 1830 and located in Clarke county, where he became a succesful planter and stock-grower, owning a large amount of land and about one hundred slaves prior to the Civil war."

Shown on the "McDuffie Family" website as a son of Mary McDUFFIE, b. 1775 in NC and her husband, ____ MARTIN, and grandson of John McDUFFIE and Flora McDONALD, from the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
