Melba Gene McLemore shows him as a son of Seymour Powell and Martha Ursula Cowling. He was in the Third Alabama Regiment, CSA. After Julia died, he married second Mary Davidson Gilchrist, the daughter of Archibald McKay Gilchrist and Mary L. Davidson Mushat. They were married on 11 Dec 1881.

Josiah married Julia C. McLemore on 31 Oct 1866. Julia (daughter of Hiram McLemore and ??? ???) was born on 30 Oct 1839 in Alabama; died on 12 Aug 1879 in North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
