The World War II Army Enlistment Records, also on Ancestry, indicate he was born in South Dakota, and enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was married, working as a semiskilled chauffeur and/or driver of bus, taxi, truck or tractor. He had attended High School for three years, and was married.
