    Hamilton-Carroll Leslie Dyer, 91, of Hamilton, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.

    He was born April 22, 1916 in New Portland, Maine to Leslie and Lora Agnes Luce Dyer.

    Carroll graduated from high school and went to Washington, Conn. where he worked in a bakery.

    His number was pulled in the draft and he was sent by the Army to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. After basic camp he was sent to Ft. Sill, Okla. While there he met Georgia Hanks of Lawton, Okla.

    He served in the European theatre and was discharged in November 1945.

    He and Georgia were married Dec. 23, 1945. They made their home in Farmington, Maine for a short time then in 1950 moved to Orono, Maine. In Oct. 1981, they moved to Hamilton.

    He worked as a chef in three different fraternities during the school year and during the summer worked in hotels or summer camps. Carroll also worked at the Jackson Liberty Cancer Research Center in Bar Harbor, Maine.

    He was a member of the Corvallis United Methodist Church. He volunteered at the Humane Society, Haven House, the Commodity Center and Marcus Daly Hospital.

    Carroll had a love for music. Georgia and Carroll belonged to numerous square dancing clubs and enjoyed dancing. Upon his retirement and move to Hamilton, Carroll volunteered his time for numerous activities. His love for cooking continued as he made pies and cakes for bake sales and soups and breads for church functions. He was a very outgoing person, always wanting to talk to people. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of his friends.

    He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia, daughter Leslie Jean Slaboda and brothers Cecil and Donald.

    Carroll is survived by his sons, Duane Allen Dyer of Blackwell, Mo., Kevin Ross Dyer of Kodiak, Alaska; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Minnie Bowker of Auburn, Maine; numerous nieces and nephews.

    A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 23, at the Corvallis Methodist Church, with Rev. Mick Gray officiating. Private family urn placement will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton. Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

    The family suggets memorials to the Corvallis Methodist Church or the Bitterroot Humane Society.

    Carroll married Georgia Medreth Hanks on 23 Dec 1945. Georgia (daughter of Alvin Roscoe "Ross" Hanks and Medreth Elberta Vaughan) was born on 29 Aug 1923 in Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma; died on 12 Nov 2003 in Hamilton, Ravalli County, Montana. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
