    Notes:

Said by BonnieMargaret Jacobs to have also have become a wannanmacher, as was his father.

In a June 9, 1985 letter to Arthur Benkelman of Missouri, Bonnie-Margaret Benkelman Jacobs speculates that "Johann George (Hans Jerg) the first born [and namesake] son of our ancestor Johann Georg (Hans Jerg)....moved to Hohenstauffen and married and raised his family there...." noting that she suspects he may be the ancestor of Arthur's family, but that she had not traced his descendants."

She added that Arthur's great-grandfather, who emigrated from Entringen, W?rttemberg was Otto Benkelman (born 6 Oct 1870), the son of Franz Anton Benkelman born in Fruedenstadt and his second wife, Pauline Schlayer born in Rottenburg. Franz Anton Benkelman was the son of Franz Joseph Benkelman and Franziska Strohmeier. Bonnie said she was able to locate the actual parish record for Otto's family in the Stuttgart Archive. Bonnie had not yet [in 1981], found a link back from Otto to the Benkelmann family of Faschenfeld, Pl?derhausen, and B?rtlingen.

Johann married Anna Maria Luther on 15 Apr 1739 in Donaukreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. Anna was born on 2 Mar 1715 in Hohenstaufen, Donaukreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died about 1798. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Johann Georg "Hans Jerg" Benkelmann was born on 23 Apr 1688 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany (son of Hans Albrecht Bengelmann and Catharine Roter); died on 3 May 1775 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

Bonnie-Margaret Jacobs writes that he was called Hans Jerg, and that he migrated to Pl?derhausen Parish, about 1700...many miles to the east, and a bit to the south, of Aalen. In earlier times the town had been called Pliederhausen and then Bliederhausen. It is split down the middle by the Rems River and the surrounding hills are given to vineyards and orchards, the town communally owning as well a large stand of beechwood.

BonnieMargaret indicated Pl?derhausen was a small town on the main road from Stuttgart to Nurnberg. On the map, Pl?derhausen appears nearly equidistant between Aalen and Stuttgart, slightly northeast of Lorch.

BonnieMargaret further noted, on page 50 of her unpublished 1981 manuscript, that on the record of the marriage of Hans Jerg Benkelmann/Binkelmann to Margaretha M?ller, he is identified as a "wannanmacher and citizen and subject of the Earl of Wollwarth-Laubach." She shows that Pl?derhausen parish records show him as a son of "Albrect Benkelmann, Waiblingen und Catharina, geb. Roter." Bonnie wrote that the occupation of wannanmacher is uncertain in our modern times, but translates loosely as "pool maker," and likely refers to some sort of copper tub, perhaps for bathing, or for water basins used in the public works of the town.

Hans Jerg died in Pl?derhausen on May 2, 1775 "after a long sick-bed, aged 87 years and 9 days, son of Allbrect Benckelmann, subject of the Earl of Wollwarth-Laubach and parish-curatot in Waiblingen in the parish of Fachsenfeld." Usually this is the extent of the record of death entered by the pastors, but the pastor of Pl?derhausen added the following additional note "the oldest man in the village, he had been a valuable citizen of much usefulness to the community and was noted for his great wisdom." (Jacobs, p. 51).

In the chapter of her manuscript titled "The Migration to Pluderhausen," BonnieMargaret statesd that the familienregister entry for Hans Jerg Binckelmann (Johann Georg) was abstracted from the actual parish records in Pl?derhausen by Friedrich Wollmershauser, professional genealogist of Stuttgart.

Johann married Anna Margaretha M?ller on 7 Jul 1711 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. Anna was born before 1692 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 16 Nov 1723 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Anna Margaretha M?ller was born before 1692 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 16 Nov 1723 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

BonnieMargaret shows her as a daughter of Michael M?ller, a citizen of Pl?derhausen (p. 50).

    Children:
    1. 2. Johann Georg "Hans Jerg" Benkelmann was born on 5 Jun 1710 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died about 1784.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Hans Albrecht Bengelmann was born about 1654 in Berg, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany (son of Adam Bengelmann and Maria Harsch); and died.

    Notes:

In April, 1980, Bonnie Jacobs wrote the following in a letter to Ben Benkelman: " I think I am reaching the end of the line on the Benkelman research and so I want to share it with you, Ben. I believe that the oldest ancestor I am going to be able to record is one Albrecht Benkelmann (actually spelled Binkelmann)..I am now researching the parish of Fachsenfeld.

The conclusion that Albrecht would be the earliest ancestor BonnieMargaret would discover was premature, as in the Fall of 1980, while on a research trip to Germany, the Stuttgart based genealogist she had hired was able to help her find parish records for both Allbrect's father and grandfather, both of who bore the name Adam. Fachsenfeld parish records-- researched and transcribed by Bonnie aided by the professional German genealogists she had hired--Dr. Paul Edel of Aalen and Friedrich Wollmershauser of Stuttgart--show Hanns Albrecht Benggelmann as a "Bauerknecht von Waiblingen", a farm laborer from Waiblingen (on the outskirts of Aalen), at the time of his marriage.

Hans married Catharine Roter on 10 Oct 1678 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. Catharine was born about 1654 in W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 27 Mar 1695 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Catharine Roter was born about 1654 in W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 27 Mar 1695 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

    Married:
BonnieMargaret Jacob's wrote, in her unpublished 1981 manuscript, that Hans Albrect married and raised his family near Waiblingen, on the outskirts of Aalen. But his sons would have to move on as the area was not large enough to sustain its growing population. Some of these descendants probably went onto Aalen as their cousins had.

    Children:
    1. Magdalena Regina Bengelmann was born on 1 Jul 1680 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; and died.
    2. Anna Barbara Bengelmann was born on 10 Oct 1685 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; and died.
    3. 4. Johann Georg "Hans Jerg" Benkelmann was born on 23 Apr 1688 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 3 May 1775 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.
    4. Caspar Bengelmann was born on 5 May 1693 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; and died.
