Volume 11, September 6, 1948, of the STRIFFLER BENKELMAN BROADCAST, reported that Mr. and Mrs. Arley Cain, of Greenville, Mich., had moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky. Arley was a recent graduate of Belding High School.

Arley married Ella Francis Ulis on 8 Jun 1940. Ella was born on 9 Oct 1923 in Saskatchewan, Canada; died on 4 Apr 1997 in Owasso County, Michigan; was buried in Parkview Memorial Cemetery, Livonia, Wayne County, Michigan. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Valerie Atkinson writes that was employed at the Gibson Plant in Greenville, Michigan. He was killed after being hit by a speeding car. He was the son of Isaac Cain and Fanny Smith.

James married Dora Alma Spencer on 5 Mar 1913 in Sterling, Arenac County, Michigan. Dora (daughter of Hiram Spencer and Adeline "Addie" Krapf) was born on 30 May 1893 in Gilford, Tuscola County, Michigan; died on 4 Mar 1980 in Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan; was buried on 7 Mar 1980 in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar, Tuscola County, Michigan. Married:
Sigmund Spencer informed Art Peck that James and Dora had seven children, the oldest dying in infancy before even named. Their other children were Dewey (1915-1979), Ethel (Mrs. Early Clouse), Arley, James, Bruce and Earl. The family lived in Lansing, Remus and Mayville, Michigan.

Art further notes that on the 1920 Michigan census, Vol. 6, ED 71, Sheet 10, Line 90, the family is enumerated as follows:

James E. Cain age 27 b. Mich. Dora R. Cain age 26 b. Mich. Dewey H. Cain age 4 1/2 b. Mich. Dora R. age 1 1/2 b. Mich.

Notes:

Valerie Atkinson shows him as the son of Joseph SPENCER and Almanza HOPKINS. She notes that the family bible instead shows his date of birth as May 31, 1861, contradicting the 1880 census, with a May 1863 birthdate. That same census shows his with the middle initial E.

She indicates that in 1870 and 1880, he was listed on the census in Gilford, Tuscola County, Michigan. In 1900, he was in Clayton, Arenac County, and in 1910 in Moffat, Arenac County.

Hiram married Adeline "Addie" Krapf on 5 May 1892 in Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan. Adeline (daughter of Johann Friedrich "Frederick" Krapf and Maria Dorothea "Dorothy" Benkelman) was born on 28 Aug 1870 in Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan; died on 24 Oct 1940 in Belding, Ionia County, Michigan; was buried in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding, Ionia County, Michigan.
