John Keith Falkenberry

John Keith Falkenberry, 62, of Houston died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008.

Falkenberry had worked for Lyondell Citco as an engineer before retiring. He was a member of the San Augustine Redland Masonic Lodge #3 and a thirty-second degree Shriner.

Survivors: his wife of 16 years, Diane Falkenberry; children and step-children, Christopher Nolan Falkenberry, Carlan David Falkenberry, Tammy Windy Mejorado, Rhonda and Laura, Michael Duane Powell and wife Cindy, John Kevin Powell, and Brian Alan Powell and wife Angela; brother, Miles Falkenberry; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Carter Funeral Home's chapel in Houston. Graveside Masonic rites followed at 3:30 p.m. at Rosevine Cemetery in Sabine County.

Elvie Wilson

Duvergn Elizabeth Birdwell Wills, 67, of Rosevine died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1996 at Medical Center Hospital in Nacogdoches.

A longtime resident of Sabine County, she was born Jan. 30, 1928, in San Augustine County. She was a member of Rosevine Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors: sons, John Keith Falkenberry of Woodville and Miles Falkenberry of Willis; two sisters, Izora PETERSON of Dobbin and Billie CAIN of Caldwell; seven grandchidlren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc in Hemphill, Bro. Milton Powell officiating. Interment followed at Low's Chapel Cemetery in Sabine County.

The Graduating Class of 1945-presented a check for $1,250 to the San Augustine Garden Club Courthouse Restoration Project. The Class of 1945 presentation (was) in memory of deceased members whose names will be entered into the "Restoration Memory Book" and available for viewing. At the time of the 1920 Federal Census, Estes, Ellie, and Oscar Birdwell were living in the home of Neal and Martha Henley of San Augustine County, and listed as their grandchildren. (Indexed on Ancestry, in error, as Denley).

Notes:

Dolores Burton shows "Norman E. (Thaduis) Birdwell was the ninth child of James Birdwell and NANCY Cogburn. He was born Aug. 07, 1881 in Sabine County Texas." Jame's wife is listed on census and other records as Mary, however, and not Nancy.

David Pike writes that Norman died of pneumonia after complications from severe burns received in a fire.

Norman married Blanche Henley on 14 Nov 1900 in San Augustine County, Texas. Blanche was born on 16 Aug 1881 in Texas; died on 28 May 1914 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

She was married first to a Birdwell, and was later the second wife of Joseph Fuller. They had two children together, and sadly Blanche died of tuberculosis some five years after her second marriage. Her stepsons, Price and Brooks, died of this as well. Her step-daughter, Ethel was also infected, and was confined to a tuberculosis santitarium in the Dallas area as a young woman. Ethel survived, however, living into her eighties.

Miss Strong; I must apologize for jumping too fast. Blanch Birdwell is in my data. Her first husband was Norman E.(Thaduis)Birdwell. The ninth child of James Birdwell and Nancy Cogburn. He was born Aug. 07, 1881 in Sabine County Texas. He died Jan. 28, 1907, in Sabine or possibley San Augustine Co. Texas. Her name was Blanch Henley B: Aug. 16, 1881, and D: May 28, 1914. Their children were Enlow Cornelius B: Jan. 06, 1902, D: Nov. 7, 1974 Oscar, D: Nov. 15.1980.I hope this help's. And that it is correct for you. Let me know if I can be of further help. Names of the children of Stephen Kerr are from a Family Photo in the Pictorial History of Sabine County, Texas, and from the 1920 Sabine County Census. There is one daughter listed in the photo that is not identified on the 1920 census, Viola. She was probably already married, or may have died young.
