    DONALD HENDRICK FINKBEINER
    85, lifelong resident of Cass City, died Sunday, April 24, 2022 in Huron County Medical Care Facility of Bad Axe. He was born January 23, 1937 in Dearborn to Walter and Ruth (Hendrick) Finkbeiner. He married the love of his life, Judith Ann Helwig on October 11, 1958 in Judy's childhood home in Cass City.

    Don attended Cass City High School and worked many different jobs, usually two at a time. He worked for the family business, Finkbeiner Plumbing and Heating and several security jobs for Thunder Road Speedway. Don worked side by side with the Secret Service while they prepared for President Nixon's visit to Cass City. He also held two certificates as an auxiliary police officer for Cass City and Gagetown. Don served as a volunteer with the Elkland Township Fire Department for almost forty years. He earned the rank of lieutenant and was also an instructor. Don was a certified Emergency Medical Technician and worked with various ambulance companies over the years. He was very talented artist, sketching with a fine tip ball point pen and coloring pencils. Don owned and operated Don's Gun Shop, where he hand carved beautiful engravings and checking on gun stocks. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling, but he was most proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom he loved very much.

    Don is survived by his children: Susan (Bill) LaBuhn of Bad Axe, Sally (Elliot) Cooper of Cottonwood Heights, UT, Sharon Finkbeiner of Grand Rapids, Jon (Rosemary) Finkbeiner of Wilmot, James (Tina) Finkbeiner of Cass City, Donald L. (Candy) Finkbeiner of Cass City; grandchildren: Kenny ( Kendra) Kady, Jeremy (Jessica) Kady, Kayla (Drew) Miros, Tim Finkbeiner, Ethan Finkbeiner, Ella Finkbeiner, Henry Cooper; great grandchildren: Maeson, Colten, Kloei, Braylon, Shyann, Avah; many relatives and friends.
    He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy; children: Jeff Finkbeiner, Dawn Finkbeiner, Clark Finkbeiner.

    Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating. Memorials may be made to Elkland Township Fire Department. Family and friends may share memories, prayers, and photos at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.

    Judith Ann Finkbeiner

    Mrs. Judy Finkbeiner, 46, a lifelong resident of Cass City, succumbed Sunday, July 13, at her home after a long illness.

    She was born March 15, 1940, in Cass City, the daughter of Clark and Myrtle (Walters) Helwig.

    Miss Helwig was united in marriage to Donald Finkbeiner Oct. 11, 1958, in Cass City where they made their home.

    She was past president of the Cass City Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Cass City.

    Mrs. Finkbeiner is survived by her husband, Donald; five sons, Mr Jeffrey Finkbeiner, USN, Norfolk, Va., Jim, Clark and Donald, all at home; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Susan) Kady II of Gagetown, Sally and Sharon, at home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Helwig of Cass City, and two grandsons.

    She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn, and one brother, William.

    She was taken from Little's Funeral Home Thursday to the Salem United Methodist Church to lie in state until 1 p.m., time of funeral services. Rev. Clare Patton, pastor, officiated.

    Burial was in Elkland Cemetery, Cass City.

    Clark Helwig

    Lifelong Cass City resident Clark Helwig died May 10 at Hills and Dales General Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 77.

    Helwig was born May 22, 1911, in Elkland Township, the son of the late Edward and Mary Striffler Helwig.

    He was united in marriage to Myrtle WALTERS April 15, 1939, in Cass City, where they made their home. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary April 15 of this year.

    Helwig was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Cass City, and the Thumb CB Club.

    He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One son, William; one daughter, Judy, and one granddaughter, Dawn, preceded him in death.

    Funeral services were held Friday at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clare Patton, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City.

    Myrtle Helwig

    Myrtle O. Helwig, 83, of Cass City, died Friday, Jan. 9. 1998, at Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City.

    Born June 20, 1914, in Cass City, she was the daughter of James Wesley and Eleanor (Lounsbury) Walters. She married Clark E. Helwig April 15, 1939, in Cass City. He died May 10, 1989.

    A seamtress in her home for many years, she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cass City.

    Surviving are 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey FINKBEINER of Cass City, Susan (Finkbeiner) KADY of Gagetown, Jon (Rosemary) FINKBEINER, James FINKBEINER (Tina Dubay), Donald FINKBEINER, Sally E. FINKBEINER and Sharon FINKBEINER, all of Cass City; four great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Donald H. FINKBEINER of Cass City; a half-sister, Margaret McCLOREY of Cass City; a sister-in-law, Gloria PEDDIE, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, William HELWIG; a daughter, Judy FINKBEINER; a granddaughter, Dawn FINKBEINER; grandson, Clark FINKBEINER, and 4 brothers, Stanley and Wesley WALTERS and Wayne and Dean PEDDIE.

    Funeral services were held Monday at the United Methodist Church of Cass City with the Rev. Philip Rice officiating.

    Interment was in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City.

    Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Cass City Building Fund.

    Little & Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, was in charge of arrangements.

    Services for Long Time Resident Today

    Funeral services for Edward Helwig were held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Cass City. The Rev. Stanley Kirn of Columbiaville officiated.

    Mr. Helwig was born in Lancaster, New York, in 1877, son of the late George and Catherine Warner Helwig. He came to this community with his parents when a child and has been a member of the Cass City EUB church since. He served as Sunday School superintendent for 17 years.

    In 1906 he married Miss Mary Striffler in Cass City and following their marriage they made their home on a farm on Schwegler Road where they have lived since. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1956.

    Mr. Helwig had been in ill health for three years and died at his residence Monday.

    Surviving are his wife; son son, Clark, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Klinkman and Mrs. Clara Bartle, both of Cass City, and Mrs. Russell (Minerva) Sherman of Caro; one brother, George Helwig of Buffalo, N.Y.; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

    Little's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements and burial was in Elkland cemetery.

    Mrs. Mary Helwig Succumbs in Caro

    Mrs. Mary Pauline Helwig, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Edward Helwig.

    Born Nov. 11, 1878, in Tuscola county, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Striffler. She and Mr. Helwig were married Sept. 26, 1906, and they made their home on a farm on Schwegler Road. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1956. Mr. Helwig died Aug. 24, 1959.

    A lifelong resident the Cass City area, she was also a life member of the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church.

    Surviving are: one son, Clark of Cass City; one sister, Mrs. Barbara Griffin of California; one granddaughter, Mrs. Donald (Judy) Finkbeiner, and three great-grandchildren, all of Cass City.

    The Rev. Ira Wood, pastor of Cass City EUB Church, officiated at the funeral services held Tuesday afternoon at Little's Funeral Home.

    Burial was in Elkland cemetery.

    Mr. and Mrs. Edward Helwig, and son Clark, have moved from the Geo. Bartle farm, 2 1/2 miles east of town, to the Harry Young farm, 8 miles north and 3 miles east of Cass City.

    The 1941 issue of the Striffler-Benkelman Broadcast showed that Mr. and Mrs. Edward Helwig would observed their 35th wedding anniversary on Sept. 26, 1941.
