  1. 8.  James Frederick Gomer was born about 1797 in North Carolina; died about 1869.

    Notes:

"The Gomer family came to Sabine County, Texas from Giles County, Tennessee between March 2, 1836 and August 19, 1836. He rec'd a Second Class land grant of 1280 A. located and surveyed in what is now Parker County. Evidently he never moved from Sabine County as records show that he bought land in 1844, located in the John Haley Survey, south of Housens Bayou near the Yellowpine community. James Frederick Gomer was typical of the average settler of his time, industrious, honest and determined to have a home in the new country. He raised his family by old fashioned standards, to obey their parents, honor God and country, and respect themselves and their neighbors. He owned a few slaves, according to the records, and a large slave cemetery is located near the Old Gomer Cemetery." (White and Toole)

James married Anna M. B. ??? about 1822 in Tennessee. Anna was born about 1803 in Georgia; died after 1870 in Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Anna M. B. ??? was born about 1803 in Georgia; died after 1870 in Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

Often shown as Bateman, but not proven. Helen Gomer Schluter was said to have spent many years trying to discover her maiden name.

In a DAUGHTERS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS PATRIOT ANNUAL ALBUM, by Turner Publishing Company (online at Google Books), it was noted that Anna was a well known midwife, nurse and "doctor" of the Housen Bayou area of Sabine County.

    Children:
    1. Mary Ann Gomer was born on 17 Nov 1828 in Giles County, Tennessee; died on 12 Sep 1897.
    2. 4. Augustus C. Gomer was born about 1829 in Tennessee; died on 12 Feb 1872 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Hemphill City Cemetery, Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas.
    3. Amanda F. Gomer was born on 19 Aug 1836 in Republic Of Texas; died on 27 Oct 1908 in Antlers, Pushmataha County, Oklahoma.
    4. Leonidas Gomer was born about 1839 in Republic Of Texas; died before 1865 in Virginia.

  3. 14.  Allen Chambers was born on 1 Oct 1813 in Georgia; died on 5 Feb 1884 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in New Hope Cemetery, Milam, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

"Allen Chamber's father was Henry (d 1842, the son of Wm Chambers, Amer Rev Veteran who rec'd a land grant in Warren Co, Ga. He d ca 1832, in Wilkinson Co Ga, leaving his widow Martha* who was on the 1850 census. The Allen Chambers family came to Sabine County in 1860, where he died Feb 5, 1884. His wife died Apr 29, 1878. Both are buried in the New Hope cemetery." White & Toole, SABINE COUNTY HISTORICAL SKETCHES AND GENEALOGICAL RECORDS. Virgie Speights wrote that the Chambers came from Georgia in the middle 1800's and settled on Chambers Hill, north of Milam, where they built a log cabin, in which they lived until they moved a mile or so further north, and built another cabin. Eventually they built a new huge, handhewn, square logged house, which was still standing when she wrote of it in the mid 1960's, and was owned by Elzie Chambers, who used the original home as a corn crib.

*Martha Chambers on 1850 Wilkinson Co Ga census is widow of Henry Chambers, and NOT the widow of his father William (Sr) Chambers. Martha, Henry's widow, lived until 1873. (Email from Earl Scott Chambers).

Earl Scott Chamber's line of descent follows:

    -William Chambers and Elizabeth Patton

-William Chambers and Rebecca Stuckey (likely to be his 2d wife) (Henry, Joel and others descend from Williams first wife.....)

-William Chambers and Isabell Jane Garrett
