Gideon married Abigail Sanford on 3 Oct 1811 in Castleton, Rutland County, Vermont. Abigail (daughter of Oliver Sanford and Phebe Newton) was born on 10 Aug 1790; died on 19 Apr 1868 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

At the time of the 1860 Federal census, she was living in the home of her youngest son, William Kendrick, in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

In 1777, Oliver served in the Connecticut Militia in the Revolutionary war. He was captured by the British at the time of the Danbury raid, April 1777, and carried to New York. (Connecticut Men in Revolution, p. 493)
After the war he sold his tannery and removed to Poultney, Vermont, where he purchased a farm. He owned one right in the Susquehannah Purchase as an original proprietor. (Milford Land Record Book 24, pp. 363, 561).

The Sanford genealogy incorrectly calls Phebe Newton the daughter of Joseph Newton; she was the daughter of Jonah Newtown and Phebe Platt. The error is based upon a misinterpretation of a deed: "All the children united in a deed conveying their rights in the estate and lands of Joseph Newton, late of Milford, Feb. 10, 1808, to Jonah Newton (Milford Land Record 24:363 & 561)." Joseph Newton, who died at Milford 11 November 1807, was Phebe's brother, not her father, and the Jonah Newton to whom the land was transferred was probably her other brother.

David married Rachel Strong in Mar 1730. Rachel (daughter of Elnathan Strong and Patience Jenner) was born on 20 Jun 1713 in Woodbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut; died on 12 Sep 1777 in Woodbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
