Harry Young Dies Friday in Cass City

Harry Young, 78, veteran retired businessman in Cass City, died Friday evening in his home after falling in his home several weeks ago.

Mr. Young was well known in Cass City business circles. He was a partner in Young and Maier Meat Market for many years before selling his interest in Feb. 1, 1941.

Before coming to Cass City, Mr. Young worked as a young man in Detroit. He was born Nov. 7, 1874 in Tillsonburg, Ont., and came to Michigan 60 years ago.

Mr. Young was a life member of the Masons.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young. He married Miss Merle Gale at Flint, Feb. 19, 1920.

Surviving, besides his widow, are one brother, Eli, of St. Louis, Mo., and a grandniece, Miss Muriel Addison who lives in the Young home.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Douglas Funeral Home, Rev. S. R. Wurtz officiating.

Burial was in Elkland Cemetery.

Note: Muriel Addison was also buried in Elkland Cemetery, with her date of birth shown as 6 Feb 1905 and date of death as 29 June 1997. Her obituary, printed on page 12 of the July 2, 1997 issue of the Cass City Chronicle, notes she was born in Swaffam, England to Alfred and Maude Addison. She never married. She lived half of her life in England and half in Cass City. She was a member of the Anglican Church of Holy Trinity Parish in Blackpool, later joining the Salem U.M.C., where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.

Maude (daughter of Jakob "Jacob" Maier and Fannie Striffler) was born on 28 Mar 1880 in Elkland Township, Tuscola County, Michigan; died on 27 Jul 1903 in Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan; was buried in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan. Harry married Bertha Maier on 12 Feb 1905 in Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan. Bertha (daughter of Jakob "Jacob" Maier and Fannie Striffler) was born on 28 Aug 1886 in Michigan; died on 29 Oct 1917 in Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan; was buried in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan. Harry married Merle L. Gale on 19 Feb 1920 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. Merle was born on 11 Mar 1886 in Greenleaf Township, Sanilac County, Michigan; died on 28 Sep 1973 in Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan; was buried in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan.
