    Slaying ends a religious mission
Arlington man charged in death of 'street minister'
    By Kristen N. Sullivan
Arlington-David Fullen's mission for the past few weeks had been to draw 2,000 banners for this weekend's March for Jesus in downtown Fort Worth, his mother said.

The last banner, depicting a crown of thorns on a 4-foot-high cross, hangs unfinished on his bedroom wall in Carol Fullen's west Arlignton apartment. Police said Fullen's mission was cut short about 4:30 a.m. Saturday when he was run over three time by a pickup in the parking lot of a neighborhood bar.

Cliff M. Livingston, 42, of the 1300 block of Ashbury Drive, was charged with murder yesterday in the killing outside Tanstaafl Pub, 409 N. Bowen Road. Livingston was arrested Saturday...

"David's a real good talker, and I think he began ministering to this guy and sent the man into a tizzy," said Danny Smith, Fullen's associate pastor at Arlington Christian Center, 801 Bardin Road. "I think David was matyred for his faitn."

Fullen, 23, became what friends called a "street minister" about three years ago after joining the southwest Arlington church. Most evenings, he dressed in his black motorcycle jacket and black boots, collected his Bible and the pamplets he wrote describing his religious experiences and headed for Dallas' West End Marketplace or Deep Ellum, said Carol Fullen, his mother.

About 1:30 Saturday moning, Fullen joined a neighbor, Jesus Estrada, at Tanstaafl Pub next door to his Bowen Road apartment complex. At Tanstaafl, the two friends began talking to Livingston, witnesses said.

"I was sitting at the bar between the man and David," said Estrada, 25. "When the bar was about to close, the guy said, "Let's go to his house and have a couple of beer."

The three men left the bar in Livingston's 1987 gray Chevrolet S10 pickup....Livingston (later) drove them back to the pub.

Back at the bar, Estrada and Fullen climbed out of the pickup, police said. Fullen walked toward the tailgate, and the truck backed into Fullen, then ran over him three times, Estrada said.

"I ran to David and tried to pick him up," Estrada said, "He couldn't get up."

"He was just laying there," Estrad said. "I said: 'Don't give up. Don't give up, man."...Fullen ws pronounced dead at the scene.

Fullen, who portrayed Jesus this spring in Arlington Christian Center's Easter pagent, had completed several religious drawings for this weekend's interdominational march. Smith said children at the church are drawing and photocopying other banners to finish Fullen's work.

    Census Information:

In 1910, there was a Marion Fullen, age 22, who was a carpenter and living as a boarder in the home of Lewis STONE of Tennessee in Angelina County, Texas. He was listed as married, even though no wife or children appeared to be in the home with him. This was PROBABLY a different Marion Fullen based on the age (which should have been around 28).

    Married:
Marriage Information, as shown in the scan of the UNIONS page of the Fullen Family Bible, was shown as follows:

    James & Julia 1910

Tiffany Layman has more precise information regarding this marriage. She writes that their marriage record was filed on 7 Sept 1907 in Ashdown, Little River County, Arkansas, and that J.M FULLEN married Julia Bay Cooper on 5 Sept 1907.

Ameth Carmicheal also shows them as the parents of an Otis Fullen, born circa 1911. Tiffany Layman, however, disagrees, writing on March 20, 2006 "I have found no proof of this, I believe he is J.M.'s nephew. He is listed in the bible but not in any census records. Nor do any other Fullens I have talked to know of his relationship to the Fullen family."
