    Juanita Johnson, 97, of Clovis, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Retirement Ranch.

    She was born May 24, 1914, in Kirkland, Texas.

    She was retired from Portales Beauty Salon.

    Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jon (Johnson) McKenzie; and one son, Kevin Edward Johnson.

    Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Portales Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

    They last lived in O'Donnell, Texas and both were buried in the Paducah cemetery in Paducah, Cottle Co, Texas.

    Said by Wynema McGrew to be the son of Jesse MADDOX and Lucinda GIBSON. On the 1850 census, his occupation was farming. On the 1860 census, in Robertson County, John A. McGrew was living with them. He was still listed a a farmer at the time of that census. Juanita Johnson. a great granddaughter, says that Benjamin married Henrietta Smith after Mary June died.

    Married:
    Per a letter from Esther Hardin McGrew, the youngest child of James Tate and Elizabeth McGrew was Mary June who married Benjamin Maddox. They had several children, and when both Ben and Mary June died, a man named Telephus Johnson (b. 1824, Georgia) took charge of both the children and their estate. He beat their young daughter, Jesse, to death. There is a lawsuit documenting all this. Because of this, a Maddox brother took in the remaining children and moved to Goliad, TX by 1870. One of the daughters of Mary June married into the Cassels family of Marion Co, MS.

    Wynema McGrew writes that a cousin, Mary Jane McGrew, and her husband John G. Maddox, helped to raise these children.
