    Notes:

    Cecil Emil Eicke passed from his earthly home to be with his Heavenly father Thursday, March 4, 2010 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at River Pointe Church, 5000 Ransom Road in Richmond. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Pastor Patrick Kelley will officiate the services. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.

    Cecil was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Bronson, to Will and Lura Mae Eicke. He graduated from Bronson High School and subsequently went to work on a seismic crew in Wyoming. Upon his return to Texas, Cecil started college at the age of 27. He earned a bachelor of business administration from the University of Houston at the age of 35 while working and raising a family. After several years of working in the oil field business, Cecil established his own oil field service company, United Surveys, Inc. in Rosenberg. He worked very hard at building a successful business and enjoyed "going to the office". His favorite hobbies included working, cooking, reading, and taking long drives. He was a member of River Pointe Church in Richmond, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

    Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Will and Lura Eicke; daughter, Claudia Joan Eicke; brother, Col. George Eicke; and son-in-law, Gary Karm.

    Survivors left to cherish his memories included his wife of 33 years, Marjorie Harkrider Eicke; daughter, Bobbie Sue Karm; son, Scott Eicke and wife, Sheila; grandchildren, Hannah, Rebekah and Jackson Eicke; stepdaughters, Laura and Val Jones, and Susan and Cristo Kitras and their children, King and Meredith Jones, and Carolina, Christos, and Stefanos Kitras; two sisters, Emily and husband, Herman McClinton, and Louise and husband, Henry Childs; two brothers, William "Bud" Bradford Eicke Jr., and Paul David Eicke; seven nephews; three nieces; and his loyal personal friends, Domingo and Lucy Rodriguez, and their children, Marisol and Eric.

    For those wishing, memorial donations in Cecil's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Houston and Southeast Chapter, 2242 West Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas 77030-2008.

    Lura Strickland Eicke

    Lura Strickland Eicke died July 11, 2005 at Tomball Regional Hospital. Mrs. Eicke was born Oct. 26, 1910 in Hemphill and was 94-years-old at the time of her death. She had lived in Bronson for many years before moving to Tomball almost 15 years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. B. "Will" Eicke. Mrs. Eicke is survived by four sons, W.B. "Bud" Eicke Jr and wife Deloris of Bay City, Cecil Eicke and wife Margie of Richmond, Col., George Eicke ans wife Annette of San Antonio, and Paul Eicke of Houston, two daughters, Louise CHILDS and husband Henry of Vidor and Emily McCLINTON and husband Herman of Tomball, and a brother I.T. Strickland of Kirbyville. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. Interment will follow at Bronson Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.

    Notes:

    Called Mollie. At the time of the 1900 Sabine County census, her date of birth was instead shown as August 1879, as was that of her brother, Albert, living with Mollie and James in 1900. It appears they were twins. However other records seem to indicate their year of birth as 1882.

    At the time of the 1910 Sabine County Census, they had been shown as married for 11 years, and as the mother of six children, all living.

    Married:
    Carl Evans also lists a daughter "Abbie" who is not shown on the various census listings for the family. Perhaps she died young.

    Their double tombstone at Spring Hill Cemetery reads "Dear parents, though we miss you much we know you rest with God."

    Bradford Carter, his son Ben, and grandson, John Bradford owned and operated Carter's Ferry for many years. (White and Toole, p 41).

    Leatha Betts, a descendant of his eldest daugther, Sarah Elizabeth, show that Bradford was married five times in total, and also indicates that he had three children with Frances Procell, though they were never married. Frances Procell was listed as a housekeeper, age 22, in his home at the time of the 1870 census. Frances Precell, shown as widowed, lived in the adjacent residence at the time of the 1880 census with her three children, Luisia, 14, William, 7, and Lizzie, 5.
