On the "Josiah Ricks Fortson Families" tree at WorldConnect (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=grami&id=I07051), it is noted that:
Sam died Intestate in Greene County, Alabama. His death and issue can be proven only by Court records in Lauderdale County, Mississippi in the 1850's when his sons tried to get their share of William Fortson's estate.

Samuel married Mary Alford before 1831. Mary was born about 1807 in North Carolina; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. William G. Fortson was born about 1832 in Mississippi; and died.
2. Joseph Fortson was born about 1834 in Mississippi; and died.
3. Sarah A. Fortson was born about 1838 in Alabama; and died.
