Edward Eugene McLemore

Eugene was the son of James Perry McLemore and Thurzer (Barker) McLemore. He enlisted in the Army during WWII and was in the Corp of Engineers, 163rd Combat Engineer Battalion. He married Mary Edna Harrison and they had one daughter who died at the age of 5 months and 19 days. Eugene was overseas and never got to see his daughter.

After his first wife died in 1973, he married Mary McAlexander McLemore in 1975. Mary McAlexander had 3 children with her first husband, Alvis Neil McLemore; Cathy McLemore, Larry Neil (Frances) McLemore, and Beth (Tom) Stultz and Eugene loved them dearly.

Eugene was a great family man and helped raise many of his nieces and nephews. He was especially fond of his grand nephews John (Mary Ann) Andrews, Corey (Maureen) Andrews and Troy (Kathy) Andrews. He will be greatly missed in our family. We loved him dearly.

At the time of the 1910 Federal Census, he was divorced, and listed as a Servant in the home of W. B. and Rose MANLEY, who lived in Civil District 18, Gibson County, Tennessee. Rachel and his children were separately enumerated also in Civil District 18, E.D. 60. Rachel was listed as widowed.

Mrs. Edwards writes that when she was given the Bible in 1990 she was looking through it one page at a time wondering if there might be something in it. "When I got to Chapter V of the book of
Deuteronomy, I found a picture of my grandfather tucked into the binding. My grandparents had separated in about 1902 when my father was about eight years old. They never divorced. He died in
March 1912 of Bright's disease."

Notes:

Could he have been married more than once? On the 1850 federal census, there is a significant gap in age between Abram M., 13, and Sugars, 6. Also, a 10 year old John M. McLemore is listed at the end of the list of children, the rest being shown in chronological order.
