    Virginia Tal Price, our sweet and loving mother and grandmother (Meme), went to be with her Lord on June 9, 2013 in Winnsboro, TX where she had been residing for the past 3 1/2 years. She was born to Daisy Florence McGrew and William Lafayette McGrew on August 5, 1925 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, J. T. Price, Jr.; sisters, Nan Krieger and Daisy Lee Thompson; brother, Murray L. McGrew; and half-brother, William Kello Buford. She is survived by her son, J. T. Price, III and wife Patricia of Winnsboro, Texas; daughters, Nan Johnson and husband Raymond of Spring, TX and Tana Senecal and husband Rick of Spring, TX; grandchildren, Scott Johnson and wife Rachel of Spring, TX, Stephanye West and husband Bert of New Braunfels, TX, Brandon Jatzlau and wife Elizabeth of Houston, TX, and Breanna Jatzlau of Conroe, TX; great-grandchildren, Victoria West, Ty West, Jillian Johnson and Gwendolyn Johnson. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Founders Baptist Church, 24724 Aldine Westfield Rd., Spring, Texas, with Pastor Richard Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.

  1. 4.  Alexander Paxton McGrew was born on 1 Mar 1836 in Perry County, Mississippi (son of James McGrew and Elizabeth "Betsy" Lott); died on 29 Dec 1886 in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana; was buried in Cemetery of Buhler Plains, Zachary, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.

    Notes:

    Per "The Southern McGrews Grew", he was a Civil War veteran and was captured, but as it was near the end of the war, he was not held long. He lived in Covington Co, MS until the late 1870's, but had to leave after he and a group of men were involved in the murder of Luke Broom. When the law came to arrest him, he asked if he could first feed his oxen, and they consented. He escaped. His brother, Leonard, loaded the family up and took them to Louisiana and they hid out near Baton Rogue. They had 11 children, and he died on 19 December 1886, and was buried in Knox cemetery, The Plains, East Feliciana Parish, LA. His wife died of pneumonia at the home of her son, Robert, on 10 November, 1895 and was buried near Alexander.

    Wynema McGrew writes that he enlisted in the Confederate State Army on either 10 Feb 1862 at Williamsburg, Covington County, Mississippi or 1 Feb 1862 at Handsboro, Harrison County, Mississippi. He was a sergeant in Company B, Fourth Cavalry under Capt. Norman. He was paroled in Gainsville, Alabama on 12 May 1865.

    Per the book THE SOUTHERN McGREWS GREW and Alley Moody of Natchez, Mississippi, James and his wife, Betsy Lott were married in 1835 in Marion County, MS. They moved to Sabine Co, TX in the mid 1840's with his family, but moved back to Perry Co, MS by 1850. On the 1860 census, Jame's widowed mother, Elizabeth (Blackburn) McGrew, was living with them. He was a Civil War veteran. After the War, they moved to Covington Co, MS and then to Mobile, AL. He was in the produce business. They had 8 children. Betsy died on 22 Nov 1880, and was buried in the Wainwright Lot of the Montgomery cemetery in Mobile. He returned to Covington, MS, to lived with his son Leonard, and died prior to 1891. He is buried in the Old Williamsburg cemetery west of Collins, Covington Co, MS.

    His middle name has been shown as both Alexander and as Harrison by different sources. On census records, he was listed simply as James.

    James A. McGrew was a resident of Mobile, Alabama, living on Spring Hill Road between Broad and Pine in 1875, as per the 1875 City Directory
