Lonnie's mother, Lucy, appears to have been twice widowed. At the time of the 1930 census she living in Sabine County with 7 young children, the oldest three ranging in age from 13 to 16 all bore the surname SMITH. Her youngest four, ages 3 through 8, were all surnamed CLEGG. Lonnie was the oldest, and at age 16 his occupation was listed as Labor, on Farm.

The "Clegg, Foster, Shahan, Moulder and Tingley Families" tree on RootsWeb's World Connect Project (Maryclegg@verizon.net) indicates that Lucy maiden name was THOMAS, and that her second husband had been Whitsett Edward CLEGG born in Vienna, Georgia.
