Generation: 1

  1. 1.  John Bell was born about 1790 in Duplin County, North Carolina (son of Hezekiah Bell and Martha Baggett); died before 1850.

    Notes:

Abner Morgan wrote in 1946 about the descendants of Rueben and Dorcus MORGAN, and stated: "Sallie (MORGAN): I do not know much about her and have never contacted any of her offsprings, however I do know she married Enoch Bell and that around 1890 they lived in Kissimee, Florida." It appears that he may have been correct about the marriage of Sally Morgan to a BELL, but possibly mistaken about her husbands first name.

There was a John Bell that was a head of household in Madison County, Florida Territory in 1840. His household consisted of 1 male between the ages of 40-50, one female between 20-30, two children between the ages of 5-10 (a boy and a girl), and three children under the age of 5, one boy and two girls.

In Lowndes County, the only Bell indexed as a head of household in 1840 was Duncan BELL. In Decatur County, there were BELL household headed by a John S. BELL, but this was for a single male between the ages of 50 and 60.

I was unable to locate the family of Enoch and Sarah Bell in Georgia or Florida for any census index from 1850 through 1900.

Tew also notes that Hezekiah and Martha had about five children. He is said to be the son of George Bell.

Hezekiah married Martha Baggett on 10 Dec 1778 in Duplin County, North Carolina. Martha was born about 1760 in Duplin County, North Carolina; died about 1836 in Decatur County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
