OZRO LEE PRATT

Ozro Lee Pratt, 90, of Geneva died at 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in San Augustine. He was born December 29, 1912, in Sabine County as a son of the late Mary Elizabeth (Cooper) and Hampton Lee Pratt and was a lifelong resident of Sabine County. Pratt was a retired truck driver for Holly Farms and a member of Geneva Baptist Church. Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and J.C. CLICK of Geneva and Gloria and Robert McELROY of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Francis Pratt, who died November 23, 2003. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2003 at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home, Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Eddis SMITH and Bro. Buddy PRATT officiating. Interment followed at Rosevine Cemetery.

A nearly identical obituary was published in the December 10, 2003 Sabine County Reporter. The only added fact was that Orzo and Francis also had four great-great grandchildren.

Ozro married Clara Francis Adkins about 1933. Clara (daughter of Jesse Marion Adkins and Sara "Sallie" Elizabeth Parker) was born on 29 Nov 1916 in San Augustine County, Texas; died on 23 Nov 2003 in San Augustine, San Augustine County, Texas; was buried in Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas. DOB may be in error, as Everett Reese Pratt, said to be his younger brother is said to be born in November 1872, 4 months after Hampton's birth.

Or could this be the Hampton Pratt that was the husband of Mollie BECKHAM and father of Hampton Lee Pratt born ca 1892?

Could he instead be a son of Drayton Pratt and Mary Benena Low?

Said by Barbara Yancey Dore to have married Britton Alford, and to be the mother of Aletha "Lethia" Alford, who married Alfred A. Halbert. Some researchers show that is was she that married Alfred Vickers.

White and Toole show him as a son of Richard Pratt (1765-1822) and Rebecca Beavers (1770-1847).

In the book "Sabine County Historical Sketches and Genealogical Records" by Edna McDaniel White and Blanche Findley (sic) Toole, it was stated that "Theophilus Alexander Harris, b. 1810, m Elizabeth Reeves, b. 1817 in S. C., and came to Texas prior to 1837. He was Justice of Peace in Milam in 1837. He was interested in civic improvement, and when New Hope Baptist Church was organized, the meetings were held in his home. He received a third class land grant in Sabine County." (p. 26).

However, a direct descendant, Elizabeth Pate, epate2@wildblue.net, cautions that it might be possible that Theophilus Harris and Alexander Harris were actually two different men, but likely related in some fashion. Theophilus was said by some to be named William Theophilus. Census records for the family of Alexander and Elizabeth consistently show his name simply as Alex, Alexander or A. Elizabeth also noted that the Alexander and Elizabeth, along with their children, can be found in Talladega County, Alabama at the time of both the 1840 and 1850 federal census enumerations, and that their youngest daughter, Nancy, is also shown on the 1860 Sabine County, Texas census as being born in Alabama ca 1854.
