The 1910 census indicates that Vernon and Elizabeth had 7 children total, 5 of whom were living. Ten years earlier, it was indicated that they had 3 children, all of whom were living. It therefore appears that son Wesley died prior to 1910. It also appears that they had another child that was born after 1900, but before 1910.

4. | Adam Byerly was born about 1798 in South Carolina; died about 1883 in Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Ebenezer Cemetery, Jasper County, Texas. Notes:
Barbara Yancey Dore shows that he was married three times, first to Nancy Ann ANDREWS, by whom he had 7 children, second to Martha, the widowed Mrs. Baker, by whom he had three children, and finally to Penelope "Penny" Eliza WIGGINS, with whom he did not have children. It is possible that youngest daughter Maria may have actually been born to his third wife, Penny, as she is not listed on the 1860 census with her brothers and widowed father. Dore also indicates he was a First Lt. in the Texas Army.
Leslie Anne Ferguson (lesanne357@aol.com) writes that he participated in the "Siege of Bexar" with a contingent from Jasper County. He went back home before the Battle of the Alamo. She indicates that Martin S. Byerly, along with his two sons, William and Adam, moved to Texas from South Carolina in 1833. She shows Adam as born in Newberry County, South Carolina.
The following additional information about the Byerly family is copied from Leslie's tree at Rootsweb's WorldConnect.

The Texas Historical Commission has erected a marker in the Byerly Campground Cemetary, which tells the following history:
"Adam Byerly migrated to Texas from South Carolina in 1833 with his father and two younger brothers. He received a mexican land grant of one-quarter league in 1835. Shortly afterward, he invited the Reverand Henry Stephenson, early Methodist missionary, to preach under a brush aubor on his property and initiated the first of many camp meetings at this site. Pioneer families travelled by wagon and camped here for a week or longer to worship and socialize. At one meeting about 1937, the Reverand Stephenson's daughter, Edith (1814-1858) married Adam Byerly's brother William (1805-1884).
In 1843 Adam and his wife Nancy deeded 10 acres, including the campground site, to the Methodist Episcopal church. About 1850, the Methodists erected a frame church building and opened this cemetary for community use. Earliest known grave is that of Edith Stephenson Byerly.
Several faiths shared use of the church building form 1898 to 1937, the structure also housed the community school. Camp meetings ended in the 1930's. The methodist congregation erected a new church in 1948 on land donated by William Byerly's grandson, Adam, and the old building was razed. A cemetery association formed in 1970, maintains the burial ground. (1977)"
