David Armstrong Barton

Wynema McGrews writes that he was the son of Jane Hall and Joshua Barton. She cites also a letter he wrote his parents on 24 Feb 1842, "....I am Married. I Married Widow McGrews Daughter of the County we were married on the 27th of January I wrote to you but a short time before and since informing you of my intentions but for fear that you should not receive them I will say something about them I expect to make my home in Texas...."

Several authors reported that David A. Barton was killed with George Washington McGrew in an series of Indian attacks during a battle on the east side of the Brazos, near Fort Marlin in Texas. Wynema reports, however, that is was actually David's brother, Hale Barton, who was killed in 1839 with George Washington McGrew.

On 7 Jan 1845, Samantha's attorney filed a petition for the Robertson County Probate Court to be named administratix of her late husband's estate. Her petition was granted. On 5 May 1845, Samuel B. Killough petitioned the same court to grant him Letters of Administration since the estate was wholly without legal representation. The probate judge appointed Samuel Killough, J.A. Well, John F. McGrew (Samantha's brother), and Thomas Webb as "safe hands" of the estate, which was to be eventually passed to the sole heir of the estate, Elizabeth Jane Barton.

David married Samantha Ann McGrew on 27 Jan 1842 in Robertson County, Texas. Samantha (daughter of James Tate McGrew and Elizabeth ???) was born about 1825 in Mississippi; died before 5 May 1845. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
