Generation: 2

  1. 2.  John McDonald was born about 1823 in Scotland; died before 1860.

    Notes:

Paula Jones and Stacey Burton both show him as John Quincy McDonald, and as a son of Robert Knoles McDonald and Ann Elizabeth Latham. This seems unlikely, as John was born in Scotland in 1823, and all of the children of Robert Knoles McDonald, and Ann Elizabeth Latham were born between 1820 and 1832 in Louisiana.

Additonally, Alison Raborn posted the following note to the McDonald Family Genealogy Forum on August 12, 2010:

When Margaret Ann [McDONALD] Bossier, daughter of Robert Knoles & Ann Elizabeth [LATHAM] McDonald, died her husband Sylvestre DeBrune Bossier married Narcissa [WALDROP] McDonald. Narcissa's FIRST husband was John Quincy McDonald. John Quincy McDonald is NOT the father, son, or brother of Robert Knoles McDonald. Here is why: 1850 Sabine Parish Louisiana Census (www.census-online.com)dwelling # 041a41 list the following McDonald family: John, age 27, born in Scotland, Narcissa, age 22, Claiborne, age 5, Betty, age 3, Robert K., age 1, born in Alabama. IN THE SAME CENSUS,but on p.24, dwelling# 095a95 there is listed McDonald, R.K., age 52, born in South Carolina; wife Elizabeth, age 45, born in Louisiana.

Also in the Sabine Parish Louisiana Marriage Records has R.K. McDonald, Justice of Peace, married his granddaughter Louisiana Bossier to a Franklin ALLEN on January 10, 1856. AND R.K.McDonald and Elizabeth's daughter, oldest child, Margaret Ann was born in 1820; therefore her father could not have been 1 year old in 1850. I don't know where in South Carolina R.K McDonald came from, but Narcissa WALDROP's father Claiborne Parish Waldrop and family came from South Carolina's 95th District Newberry County, and showed up in Louisiana about same time R.K. McDonald did. If anyone has any South Carolina information please contact me!

Kathy Casagranda also shows them as the parents of John Lawrence McDonal and Francis McDonald. Could these children have died young? They are not with their mother and her second husband, Sylvestre Bossier, as the time of the 1860 census.

    1. 1. Claiborne Parish McDonald was born on 10 Jun 1845 in Alabama; died on 30 Sep 1916 in Sabine Parish, Louisiana; was buried in Bossier Cemetery, Union Springs, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.
    2. Elizabeth Lee "Betty" McDonald was born on 30 Mar 1847 in Alabama; died on 12 Jun 1931; was buried in Union Springs Cemetery, Converse, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.
    3. Robert Knoles McDonald was born on 1 Oct 1849 in Alabama; and died.

Generation: 3

  1. 6.  Claiborne Parrish Waldrop was born on 11 Jan 1792 in Newberry County, South Carolina; died on 22 May 1872 in Pleasant Hill, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.

    Notes:

Kathy Casagrande writes that Claiborne Waldroup was born Claiborne Parrish Waldrop 1-11-1792 in South Carolina. Claiborne is the son of Hezekiah Waldrop born circa 1772 and Martha Davenport. Hezekiah Waldrop was the child of John Waldrop b. circa 1732 in Hanover Co., VA and Tabitha Parrish. This family can be traced further back to Michael Waldrop b. circa 1680 in VA. The father of Claiborne Waldroup died in MS after 1850 in possibly Holmes County. Paula Jones, a family researcher, states that Claiborne Parrish Waldrop always spelled his name as WALDROP.

No listings for Waldrop or any spelling variation in the Sabine Parish cemetery records.

The History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana (author John Belisle, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912) states that "in 1860 the white population of Sabine Parish numbers about four thousant, and there were less than two thousand slaves. There were few really wealthy people in the parish, and many owned not more than one of two slaves. the owners of six or more in 1861 included C. P. Waldrup.
