When he completed his draft registration card for World War I, he was shown as a resident of Mount Pleasant, Texas. This was in September 1918. He was shown as 20 years old, white, native born, of medium heighth and build, and had brown eyes and hair. His occupation was that of a Telegraph operator, employed by Frisco of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His nearest relative was Mrs. Lulu McGree of Mount Pleasant. Lula McGee, shown as his mother, was living with his family at the time of the 1930 census.

His Texas Death certificate shows his parents as W. J. McGee and Loulou Hargrove, and that his wife at the time of his death was named Ruth. His usual occupation was Railroad Dispatcher. His FindAGrave memorial page links him to Ruth GREAVES (FAG # 66676697).

She and Gordon separated sometime before the 1940 census, as she was the head of household in Titus County, Texas, listed as Widowed, age 34, and teaching school. The census also showed that she attended four years of college. Son Marvin was also listed in her home, and he was age 10.
