  1. 2.  Frantisek "Frank" Bartu was born on 4 Oct 1848 in Radlice, Moravia (son of Pavel "Paul" Bartu and Anna Svoboda); died on 18 Feb 1930 in Urban Farm, Friend, Saline County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian Brethren Cemetery (AKA Cesky Bratri Cemetery), Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    Frank was 24 when he came to America. He homesteaded the S 1/2 NW 1/4 of Section 12 in Glengary Township of Fillmore County, claiming the land at the Beatrice Land Office on April 10, 1878. His brother, Peter, homesteaded the N 1/2 of this quarter on the same day. Frank received the patent to his 80 acres on July 10, 1883. He sold this 80 acres to his brother on June 28, 1890. Frank Bartu became a naturalized citizen of the United States on November 22, 1880 in Fillmore County. He later purchased school land from the state of Nebraska a the W 1/2 SE 1/4 and the E 1/2 SW 1/4. The land was sold to his son-in-law, Vaclav Urban, and almost immediately transferred back to Vaclav's mother-in-law, Katherine Bartu. When the Bartu's lived on this farm, they had Catholic Church services on Sundays there (Milligan, pp 189-190).

    As of the 1910 census, the widowed Frank Bartu was living with his son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Fannie Bartu, in Saline County.
