In her annotated transcription of the Mill Creek Cemetery, Kay Parker McCary notes that "There is a small grave marked with a stone perimeter that Noble Terrence Smith says was a 12 year old girl that was traveling on a riverboat and got sick. Samuel William McDaniel and Martha Ann Martin took her in and she died about the same time as their daughter, Lillie Araminta McDaniel. The 12 year old is also buried by Lillie."

Hill) was born on 27 Jan 1845 in Cherokee County, Texas; died on 21 Jun 1923 in Fairdale, Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Fairdale, Sabine County, Texas. In her annotated transcription of the Mill Creek Cemetery, Kay Parker McCary shows that there is also a burial marker for" J. L. M.," who was said by Noble Terrence Smith to be a brother of his mother, Minnie Mozelle Smith. There are no dates, and his initials to not match the initials of their known children. He may have been born and died so young that his information was never recorded. As their are no date, the order of his birth is not known.

"Came to Sabine County from Edgefield, South Carolina in 1841 after a stay in Holly Springs, Mississippi." (White and Toole).

Sometimes shown as Levi Lafayette McDaniel, but this is not proven.

Levi married Harriett Mozelle Windham about 1836 in Mississippi. Harriett was born about 1806 in Georgia; died in Feb 1853 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Mill Creek, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Said to be the daughter of Samuel B. Windham and Leah Blake of Scott County, Mississippi. A sister of Dr. J.D. Windham of Center and Thos. Windham. (White and Toole, p 47).

Her memorial page on FindAGrave, created by Kay Parker McCary, shows that she was born in Alabama versus Georgia (a shown on the 1850 census). It also has her linked to Samuel B. Windham and Leah Blake's memorial pages, and shows she was married first to Frederick A. Thomas, and the mother of Leah Susan Ann THOMAS Dainwood, as well as being the mother of Samuel William McDaniel.

Joseph Thipgpen writes that they lived in Angelina County, Texas. He also stated that on 9-18-1852, " ISIAH MARTIN WAS THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE ESTATE OF AARON MARTIN. ON DEED RECORDS DATED 8-2-1853, JOSIAH MARTIN WAS THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE ESTATE."

(Aaron Martin) m. Sept. 3, 1843, Mrs. Mary Hill Willis....(she) m. third an EDY. (White and Toole, p 47).

Dale Rubel shows she was born in Georgia or Alabama, as does Kay Parker McCary. McCary also shows that Mary was married for a third time, to John Edy on 6 Aug 1854, in Cherokee County, Texas.

White & Toole, "Sabine County Historical Sketches and Genealogical Records", pages 46 and 47 show that "In 1786, Absalom McD. made his will naming wife Bartha and sons, WILLIAM, Hiram and Jehiel. Hiram also moved to Georgia about 1798. Absalom's estate was on the Savanah River. His father, James had rec'd 640 A. plus 756 A. in 1796. In 1813, Alexander McD., Wm. McD. acting as his attorney, sold over 1000 acres of land to Moses Swearingen. Much of the information about the family of William and Dosha McDaniel was taken from a letter rec'd by the late Lewis McD. of Sabine County from a cousin in Alabama, in 1924. The letter was from John Matheny. He obviously copied if from the family Bible, for most of these lines have been researched from then until present, and they have checked out to be correct."

William married Douvica "Dosha" Couch on 23 Jun 1798 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. Douvica was born before 1780 in South Carolina; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The daughter of Edward Couch and Apsilia Watson. Edward d ca 1796 sons John, Watson, and Willis, a dtr Francis was the mother of Mamie Norris Tillman, wife of Gov. Ben Tillman of S.C. John Watson is believed to have been the father of Apselia Watson Couch. (White and Toole, p 46-47).
