    Notes:

    In the flour and feed business with his father and brothers for 50 years. He became bored after his retirement, and found employment with the Geneva Implement Company. He was an instigator in getting an electrical substation in Milligan, and his home was the first residence to be connected to Natural Gas. Master Mason, Shriner and member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite. He was a dance manager for the Auditorium, and served on their board as well. (Milligan, p 326).

    Notes:

    A hard working person, Marie spent a great deal of time at the mill sacking flour, and doing other jobs. Despite her busy schedule she always managed to find time to help others. (Milligan, p 327).

    After deciding to discontinue farming, they had a sale in 1923 and started building a flour mill in Milligan. In 1924, they moved to town and began operations in the mill and elevator. In the early 1930's, Albert and his sons built one of the first cold storage locker plants in the area. In connection with this, they engaged in the wholesale beer business. (Milligan, p 327).

    Notes:

    Came to the United States in 1867*, originally settling in Chicago. They later homesteaded in Fillmore County, Nebraska. His homestead was the W 1/2 SE 1/4 of Section 10, Glengary Township on 17 October 1870, for which he received the patent on 16 May 1878. Josef use to work in Nebraska City and would walk there and back, often carrying home a 50-pound sack of flour. (Milligan, p. 324).

    *May have come later than this, as daughter, Mary, born in 1868 was shown on census records as having been born in Bohemia.

    Notes:

    Frank and Terezie came to America from Kralovic, Czechoslovakia in 1904, along with children Marie, Jim, Frank and Bohumil. Their older son, Albert, had preceded them by two years. When they first arrived, they went to the farm home of Frank and Marie (Bernasek) KOTTAS. Marie's mother was Marie FRYCEK. Frank and Terezie farmed in Milligan for 11 years, later moving to Christina, Montana to farm. (Milligan, 273-274).

    Frantisek married Terezie Pesik about 1884. Terezie was born on 17 Jan 1863 in Brdo, Plzen-Sever, Plzensk?     In her declining years, Terezie was persuaded to move back to Nebraska to be cared for by daughter Marie Kassick. After her death at age 65, her funeral services were conducted by the Royal Neighbors of America, Jednota Ceskych Dam and Rad Cechie, organizations of which Terezie was a member. (Milligan, p 274).
