    Robert Lee graduated from North Bend High School in 1959 and entered the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1961 and served actively from 1962-64. The Robert Lee Racek family presently resides on the late Madelyn Hajek farm west of Morse Bluff which has been in the family since 1946.

    Robert has served six years on the School Board of Dist. 14, is a member of the Morse Bluff V.F.D. for 21 yrs., Bohemia Township Board, and Legion Post No. 340 of Morse Bluff.

    Obituary

    The funeral for Mayme M. Racek, 91, of Morse Bluff will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend.

    She died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

    Mayme Chvatal was born Nov. 11, 1911, on a farm near Morse Bluff. She attended elementary school at District 77 and then attended school at Malmo for three years. She was a 1929 graduate of Wahoo High School. She lived most of her life in rural Morse Bluff. She was a member of ZCBJ (Western Fraternal Life Association) Lodge 9 at Morse Bluff for 65 years and she served as an officer for most of those years.

    She married Raymond J. Racek on Jan. 30, 1934, at Fremont. He died Aug. 17, 1994.
    Survivors include: a son, Keith (and wife, Gilberta) Racek of Morse Bluff; a daughter-in-law, Wilma Racek of Morse Bluff; a brother, Francis (and wife, Agnes) Chvatal of Fremont; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

    She also was preceded in death by a son and grandson.

    The Rev. Don Botic of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend will officiate Saturday's service. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be in Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

    Open house set of couple's 50th

    Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Racek of Morse Bluff will be honored on their 5oth anniversary with an open house from 2-5 pm on Saturday, March 3, at St. Charles Parish Center.

    Raymond Racek and Mayme Chvatal were married on Jan. 30, 1934. The couple's children, Keith Racek and Robert and Wilma Racek and family, will host the event.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend without further invitation.

    Morse Bluff Man Dies

    Edward Racek of Morse Bluff died Friday, January 29, at this hom in Morse Bluff. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Racek and was born and raised in the Morse Bluff vicinity. His age was fifty-eight years, four months and eight days. He is survived by his wife and one son and a grandson. A daughter preceded him in death. His mother, one brother and four sisters also survive him. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Filipi of Clarkson were held Sunday afternoon. A short service was held at the home and a longer one at the Z.C.B.J. hall in Morse Bluff. Burial was made in the Killian cemetery.

    Mrs. Anna Racek, 74, Dies

    Mrs. Anna Racek, 74, of Morse Bluff died Sunday night in the Fremont hospital.

    Mrs. Racek was born October 3, 1888 in Morse Bluff. She was married December 11, 1907 to Edward Racek who died January 29, 1937. She was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge.

    Survivors are one son, Raymond, of Morse Bluff; one sister, Mrs. Rudy (Emma) Kavan of Fremont and two grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Moser Funeral Home in North Bend with the Rev. Sherman Ragsdell of Exeter officiating. Organis was Mrs. Donald Proett. She accompanied Ray and Fred Houfek who sang in Czech "Beyond the Sunset" and "Sweet Bye and Bye."

    Pallbearers wre Arnold Kavan, John Huska, Raymond Kavan, Otto Hines, Lewis Racek and Edward Virka.

    Interment was in Killian cemetery.

    Vaclav Racek, Breskovice, Plzen, Nov. 27, 1849, came with father to Iowa in 1861, died Nov. 18, 1908

    James Racek, son of Mathias and Maria Racek, was born 11-27-1849 in Breskovice, Czechoslovakia, and came to the U.S. about 1861. He married Veronica Beznoska (born 2-4-1855). To them were born 4 sons: Frank, William, Edward, and Emil; and 5 daughters: Anna Tenopir, Emma Virka, Lizzie Hines Svec, Teresa, and Julie Vachal. James and Veronica lived all their lives on the homestead they acquired in 1874. James died 11-18-1908, and Veronica on 10-14-1946.     Notes:

    She is listed as Veronika on the Czech immigration index and her tombstone, however later census listings variously show her as Sarah and as Flora.

    Mrs. James Racek, born February 4, 1885 (sic), in Bohemia, died October 14, 1946, at the age 91 years, 8 months, 10 days. In 1871 she was married to James Racek. They settled on the homestead in Saunders County in 1869 near Morse Bluff where she resided until her death. Her husband preceded her in death 38 years ago. The were blessed with nine children. Three sons and one daughter preceded her in death. She is survived by one son and three daughters, William of Morse Bluff, Anna Tenopir of Geronimo, Oklahoma, Emma Virka, Morse Bluff, Lizzie Svec, Milligan and Julia Vachal, Morse Bluff, 26 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. One brother and three sisters preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 1 pm from the Vachal home and at 1:30 pm from the ACBJ hall. Rev. B.A. Filipi of Clarkson officiated. Burial was made in the Killian cemetery.

    A copy of an obituary, apparently written in Czech, lists her place of birth as Berouna v Plzenskem kraji. v Cechach.

    Caroline noted that Veronika had a stroke in 1930, and was unable to walk or talk for the 16 years preceding her death.

    Joseph Hines, Koryta, December 1845, came to Braidwood in 1867. Living at date of writing.

    Obituary:

    Joseph Hines, one of the earliest settlers in the vicinity of Morse Bluff, died at him (sic) Wednesday of last week. Funeral services were held Friday under the auspices of the Z.C.B.J. lodge, conducted by the Rev. Philipi of Clarkson. Interment was made in the Killiam cemetery. Mr. Hines was born in Czechoslovakia in 1845 and came to the United States in 1868. He located on a farm in Saunders county in 1871 and continued the occupation of farming until his death. He is survived by this wife and the following children: Frank, James, John, Mrs. Edward Racek and Mrs. Rudolph Kavan. Mr Hines lived on the same farm near Morse Bluff for sixty years.
