  1. 4.  Michael Youngblood was born on 26 Mar 1823 in Mississippi (son of Henry Youngblood and Sarah Miller Harvey); died on 26 Apr 1898 in Texas; was buried in Hemphill City Cemetery, Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

    He lost an arm at the Battle of Antietam. They moved to Hemphill after the war, and served Sabine County as Clerk or County Judge until his death. (White and Toole, p 81).

    Michael Youngblood was the son of Henry Youngblood and his wife, Sarah Miller (Harvey) Youngblood. Michael was born in Marion County, Mississippi on 26 March 1823. The family later moved to Caddo Parish, Louisiana. In DeSoto Parish, Louisiana on 16 October 1851 he married Anna Maria Bonneau daughter of Col. William Henry Bonneau and his wife, Anna Maria Swinton. Their children were Mary Adeline (Youngblood) Whitehead and Vanderhorst Bonneau Youngblood. After the death of Anna Maria Bonneau, Michael married her sister, Sarah Adeline Bonneau on 22 April 1878. Michael died 26 April 1898 in Hemphill, TX.

    Michael enlisted in the Confederate Army on 1 April 1862 at Milam, Texas. He served as a private in Company I of the 1st. Texas Infantry known as Hood's Brigade. On 17 September 1862 during the battle at Sharpsburg, Maryland he suffered wounds to the left hand and arm which resulted in the amputation of his left arm near the shoulder. He was never physically able to return to duty, and he was finally retired on 1 December 1864 at Shreveport, Louisiana.

    Michael held public office in Sabine County many years. He served as County Clerk as well as District Clerk.

    Notes:

    He moved to Hemphill after the Civil War, and he and J.H. Speights were in business together. Hampton operated a store and a saloon. His two-story home was located where Perry Brothers store now is. He owned the east half of the square. He came to Hemphill with all his wordly goods tied to a kerchief at the end of a stick across his shoulder, and died a wealthy man (White and Toole, p 80).

    The first family member to settle in Saing County, (he) was one of the earliest volunteers in "Cotton's Southrons' First Unit, Hood's Brigade. This brigade was one of the hardest fighting, most famous units in the Civil War.     The son of Benjamin and Susanna Collins Youngblood. Henry Youngblood and family moved to Desota Parish, LA in 1837. Eight of their sons fought in the Civil War, two of them giving their lives. (White and Toole, p 81).

    There are numerous Youngblood families in the 1850 Newton County, Texas census. There connection to this family, if any, is not currently known.

    John Harvey, b ca 1700, was living in Va. in 1742, but moved his sons, John Jr., Michael, and THOMAS to S.C. in 1756. THOMAS HARVEY and his four sons, John, Evan, James, and MICHAEL (Sr.), are listed in the DAR Records. They were all in Gen. Eliza Clark's co. in the American Revolution. MICHAEL HARVEY (Sr.) d in Ga in 1810, m REBECCA HAWKINS, (dau of PINKETHMAN HAWKINS). Issue: MICHAEL JR. m POLLY CLOWER in Warren County, Ga in 1796. Issue: SARAH MILLER HARVEY, b Ju 10, 1801.     Notes:

    He is descended from the Bonneau Hugenots who came to America in 1690. They intermarried with the Du Bliss, Vanderhorst, and Mayback families of Charleston. Moved to Hemphill after Maria (Swinton, his first wife) died and m 2nd, Jennie Brooks. He served as Dist. Clerk of Sabine County until his death in 1879, in Mobile, Alabama. (White and Toole, p 81).
