The September 20, 2006 "Sabine County Reporter" had a picture of the Milam, Texas, First Grade through High School--Spring 1927. A Drew White was pictured, but a grade was not indicated. The photo was submitted to the "Sabine County Reporter" by Robert E. "Ted" Finley of Van Nuys, California.

In an article about Jack Causey from OLDTIMERS OF SABINE COUNTY, TEXAS, it is noted that he "attended a one-room school which was called Hickory Hill and was located a bit north of the J.B. Bohannon place. Teachers he remembers are Miss Lillie Speights, Miss Anna Watson (later Mrs. John Dent), Drew White, who married Miss Dora Speights, and Miss Nora Goodrich."

Charlie White reports he had spinal meningitis.

Could Cade be a nickname for Cajabeth? Jack White emailed, in August, 2013, that he is descended from Cajabeth White, who was living in Bute Co, NC with his brother, William, as early as 1766. He had two sons, John and Robert. John White inherited land from a man named John Seagrove, whose will names John White as his nephew. It seems likely that Cajabeth's wife, Frances, was a Seagrove, but this is not proven.

The 1771 tax list for Bute Co shows that Young McLemore, who is part of your family tree, had an overseer named John Seagrove, who appears on a number of documents with members of the McLemore family before they migrated out of Bute (later Warren) Co. I have been trying for a couple of years to piece together precisely how the Seagrove, McLemore and White families may have interacted with one another, but the Seagrove family history is as complicated as that of the Whites.

The thing that interests me about your website is that Cajabeth White was frequently referred to in court documents as Cade, and I see in your website that two sons of Edward White (b. 1781 in Mecklenburg Co, VA) each had sons they named Cade.

Cade married Mary Susan Click on 9 Nov 1875. Mary (daughter of William M. Click and Elizabeth Merchant) was born on 14 Dec 1856 in Arkansas; died on 23 Jan 1909 in Texas; was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Some researchers show that they also had a daughter named Emily Ann that died young.

In an article dated September 12, 1963 about Susan Arnold Nichols, Virgie Speights stated that on one trip home "they stopped by the home of a cousin, out on Palo Gaucho Creek, Dr. Johnny Speights and his wife, Sally Wilson Speights." Susan was the daughter of Jim Arnold, and granddaughter of Hanna Davis and J. M. Arnold. He was also a godson of Cadwaller Davis and Amelia Lee. (Speights, Old Timers of Sabine County, p. 21).

Sharon Speights Varney quotes Virgie Collier Speights as writing "John was a small child when the family moved to the Mississippi Delta along with his brothers and sisters. John married Emily Scott. To this union were born Tom, John "Doc" and Dora. His wife died and her amrried a Miss (Rebecca) Holbert. To this union were born Mandie in 1866, an infant that died, and Robert Joel on September 11, 1870. The second wife died and he married Lizzie Davis. To this union were born Exa in 187, Mattie, Minnie, and an infant that died. Johns third wife died and he lived a widower approximately 35 years. John hired a man to take his palce in the confederate army, however after one year he was assigned to making salt. John joined the Campbellite Church during his old age. He died in 1912 and was buried in Lowe Cemetery in Sabine County, Texas."
