    Notes:

In November, 2009, Vernon Virginia Ferguson Johnson (vernon2007@sbcglobal.net) emailed me that:

"As far as anyone knows the Olly Ferguson that married Drucilla Cook was not ever called AULSTON ? he never used this name--this is a different person, but has been so widely reported now that it is often taken as fact.

I want to remind descendants of Olly Ferguson -East Texas that Otey Ferguson in Va is NOT Olly of Texas...Please don't use the man in Va....the following message was posted several years ago.... my line is Olly, Roland,. Roland, Samuel, Jim, Vernon,

In 1993 when I found that someone had Olly's parents as Alexander Ferguson Jr and Nancy Wood, I contacted Christine Huddleston in Vinton, VA. She is the daughter of Edmund T Ferguson, Sr. who wrote "Ancestors & Some Families of Stephen D Ferguson and etc" She sent papers that listed the children of Alexander and Nancy and who they married. The third child listed was OteyOtty born 7th May 1797. Otey married Polly Arrington 3rd Mar 1823: min. Moses reer -surety, Daniel Arrington.

Transcript of Nancy Ferguson will (wife of Alexander Ferguson) proved 7th of Oct 1839 Rocky Mount, Franklin Co, VA. After listing all her children she left one dollar each to children of her son Otey Feguson, dec'd .....Alexander, Elizabeth, Sarah, Absond?, Daniel and Otey.

I would think that this proves that this is not our Olly.

Olly A Ferguson has no record of when or where he was born his age is never given. He did appear to die, or leave, Sabine County ca 1832, as his wife Drucilla remarried Eli Low around that time.

Olly A Ferguson could not have been the Son of Alexander and Nancy Wood their son was Otey/Otty, and he lived and died in VA

These are facts we do know about Olly:

Generation: 4

  1. 10.  Greenberry "Green" Cook was born about 1781 in South Carolina; and died.

    Notes:

Thought to be a son of Drury COOK and Druscilla COLLINGSWORTH, and a brother to William COOK, who married Temperance MORRIS, a sister to Greenberry's wife, Nancy MORRIS. Rocky Wright believes a third brother, Thomas, settled in Pike County, Mississippi.

In 1803, GREENE COOK witnessed a deed of Ed Moore and wife Rebecca Moore Cook in Clarke County, Georgia.

In 1805, GREENE COOK served on a jury in Clarke County, Georgia.

In 1811, GEENBERRY COOK was one of six legatees of William Cook, all of the state of Georgia, who sold 75 acres to Joshua Cook.

GREENBERRY COOK volunteered in 1812 in Mississippi and after serving 6 months of service was honorably discharged in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in December 1812. He also served under Capt. John Bond January 3, 1815 until April 2, 1815.

It is believed GREENBERRY COOK moved to the Rio Hondo lands ca 1820. He served as the road overseer in Natchitoches, June 2, 1829.

At the time of the 1850 Sabine Parish census, Green and Nancy were living next door to 43 year old Greenberry Cook, his wife Frances, and their four children. This was not his son Greenberry Morris Cook, who was married to Rebecca Low. It was most likely his nephew, likely the child of William Cook. That Greenberry Cook died before the 1860 census and is buried in the Antioch Cemetery in Sabine Parish. (Casagranda, 1850 Sabine Parish Census, p. 74)

The 1840 Natchitoches, Louisiana Census lists a household of 14, consisting of one free white male between the age of 50-59 (therefore born bet. 1781 and 1790) and one free white female between the age of 60-69 (born bet. 1771 and 1780), and 12 slaves, 6 male and 6 females, with half of the slaves being under the age of 10

There was a Green Cook who was the head of a household in Lawrence, Mississippi at the time of the census enumerations in 1820 and 1830 for Lawerence County, Mississippi. It is not known if this is the same Green Cook that later lived in Louisiana, but the household makeup appears to fit.

The makeup of the household in Lawrence County was as follows:

    1820
    Head of Household
    Greenberry Cook
    Free White Males
    Under age 10-One
    Bet 10-15-Two
