Notes:

Tucker Whitmire was married in 1936 to Bettie McClelland, according to Galveston County Marriage Book 40, page 116. He was remarried in 1943 to Novie Gooch, according to Galveston County Marriage Book 45, page 493. Children born to Tucker Whitmire, Bettie McClelland Whitmire, and Novie Gooch Whitmire are unknown.

Novie Whitmire Cones

Novie Whitmire Cones, 86, of Lumberton died on her birthday, June 2, 2007.

Mrs. Cones was born June 2, 1921, in Hemphill as a daughter of the late Walter Lee and Bulah (Youngblood) GOOCH. As an active member of the First Baptist Church in Silsbee, she was a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Cones was retired from Baptist Hospital as an admitting clerk.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tucker WHITMIRE.

Survivors: her husband of 16 years, John D. CONES; daughters, Gladys BAGGETT and husband Larry of Spring and Carolyn McLEMORE of The Woodlands; stepchildren, Ronnie FORMAN and husband Fred of Houston, Kenneth CONES and wife Anita of Tyler, and Johnny CONES and wife Donna of Los Angeles, California; a sister, Gladys JOHNSON of Florida; grandchildren, Tracie BROOKS, Jeremy BYROM, Julie BYROM, Jill SHEFFIELD, Dustin McLEMORE and Josh BYROM; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5, at First Baptist Church in Silsbee with Dr. Scott Moody officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Silsbee, 350 Hwy 96 S, Silsbee, Texas 77656.

Services were under the direction of Claybar/Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.

Claiborne married Roxy Jane Harper in Jul 1888 in Sabine County, Texas. Roxy (daughter of James Robert Harper and Delia Rice) was born on 30 Apr 1867 in Texas; died on 31 Jan 1946; was buried in Harpers Chapel Cemetery, Sabinetown, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

\\According to the book "Sabine County Marriages 1875-1900 1900-1910 Prior to 1875" by Blanche Toole, "Gooch, C.P. (married) R.J. Harper 3 July 1888 by M. Youngblood. Based on the following census records, it appears she was born in approximately 1868, and would have been about 20 years old when she married.

Roxie appears to be the daughter of James Robert Harper and Delia Rice, both of whom were born in Mississippi. At the time of the 1880 Sabine County census, they had a 12 year old daughter named Jane. There are no other Harper families in Sabine county with a daughter of that age.
