From the aforementioned HISTORICAL SKETCHES, PRESBYTERIAN CHURCHES AND EARLY SETTLERS IN NORHTEAST GEORGIA. "Sarah died in old age about 1840. She was an excellent woman with some peculiar ways. early in this century it became fashionable for ladies to wear tall bell-crowned beaver hats. Mrs. Thompson fell into the prevailing fashion, and when fashion changed, she would not change with it. As late as 1836, I have seen Mrs. Thompson in New Hope Church wearing her tall bell-crown beaver hat."
