    Betty Jean Buzek, of Milligan, was born to Henry P. Kotas and Mae Kubicek Kotas on November 22, 1929 at home in Milligan, NE. She passed away December 20, 2014 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE at the age of 85 years and 28 days. She attended rural school district #5, northwest of Milligan through 8th grade, then attended Milligan High School, graduating in 1947. In July 1956, Betty began employment at Formfit Rogers in Crete, NE as a seamstress until August of 1982. In January 1983, she began working at Swingster's Apparel Marketing Industries, in Fairbury, NE until she retired. Betty was married to Merle Buzek of Milligan, NE on April 19, 1949 and to them two children were born; Marlon Ray and Deborah Jean.

    Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church of Milligan, UMW, Pythian Sisters, Milligan American Legion Post 240 Auxiliary, ZCBJ Lodge, Senior Citizens Club and Betty's Club of Nebraska. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and had God's gift for music with any instrument, especially the accordion and piano.

    She was preceded in death by her parents Henry P. and Mae Kotas, her in-laws Milo and Mildred Buzek, sister in-law Sue Kotas, and brother in-law Henry Bigelow. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Merle, brother, Reenlee Kotas of San Diego, CA, sister in-law Roma Bigelow of Milligan, NE, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Kathy Rischling of Milligan, NE, son Marlon (Judy) Buzek of Stromsburg, NE, daughter Deborah (Mike) Kassik of Milligan, NE, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great step grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Milligan United Methodist Church in Milligan, NE at 2:00 PM with Pastor Sandra Blumanhourst & Kim Dunker officiating the service. No visitation/cremation. Burial will be held at a later date in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Milligan, NE. Memorials are to be directed to the family for a later designation

    Everett Bartels, age 86 of Tobias, NE, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Gardenside LTC in Fairbury. He was born December 17, 1923 at Tobias, NE. Everett was a retired farmer Survived by wife Iona, daughters Judy & Marlon Buzek of Stromsburg, NE, Janet & Raymond Capek of Milligan, NE, Joy & Scott Wolfe of Daykin, NE. 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Brother Willard Bartels and wife Judy of Tobias, NE, sisters, Leona Klawitter of Tobias, NE, Donna Steinbrook of Tobias, NE, Dorothy Brandt of Western, NE. Preceded in death by parents Otto and Lena Schwisow Bartels, brothers Vernon and Gaylord.
    Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Tobias, NE with Pastor Ryan Meyer officiating. Burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials to family's choice. Family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury.

  4. 7.  Iona Kleine was born on 3 Mar 1929 in Daykin, Jefferson County, Nebraska; died on 20 Jul 2016 in Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska; was buried in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Tobias, Saline County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    Iona Mae (Kleine) Bartels was born on March 3, 1929 on a farm northwest of Daykin, Nebraska. She was the only child of William and Minnie (Hahn) Kleine and passed away on July 20, 2016 in Fairbury, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 17 days. Iona was baptized on March 17, 1929 at her home and confirmed in Christ on June 21, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Daykin, Nebraska.

    Iona attended elementary school at District 35 and graduated from Daykin High School in 1946. Following graduation, she enrolled at Commercial Extension of Omaha.

    On September 12, 1948, Iona was united in marriage to Everett L. Bartels at St. John's Lutheran Church in Daykin, Nebraska. They were privileged to celebrate 61 years of marriage. This marriage was blessed with three daughters, Judy, Janet and Joy.

    Iona was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church of Tobias, Nebraska. She was a member of Zion Ladies Aid, LWML and her church circle serving as a leader for many years. She enjoyed making the church's baptismal banners until her health declined. Special interests during her lifetime included baking, gardening, music, embroidery and painting.

    Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Minnie Kleine; her husband, Everett Bartels and her parents-in-law, Otto and Lena Bartels.

    Survivors cherishing her memory include her daughters and their spouses, Judy and Marlon Buzek of Stromsburg, Nebraska; Janet & Ray Capek of Milligan, Nebraska and Joy and Scott Wolfe of Daykin, Nebraska.

    Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Heather and Eric Lindsley, Grant and Logan of Osceola, Nebraska; Chad and Stephanie Buzek, Tara and Tori of Stromsburg, Nebraska, Jason Capek, Chase and Carter of Shelton, Nebraska; Justin and Melissa Capek, Jayden and Liam of Ohiowa, Nebraska; Jon and Audra Capek and Stormi of Carleton, Nebraska; Joshua Capek of Tobias, Nebraska; Aaron and Jennifer Wolfe, Cooper, Berkeley and Decker of Tobias, Nebraska and Megan and Derrick Haake, Maddox, Bryant and Harper of Daykin, Nebraska.

    Other immediate relatives include brother-in-law Willard Bartels and wife Judy of Tobias, Nebraska; Sisters-in-law, Leona Klawitter of Milligan, Nebraska; Dorothy Brandt of Western, Nebraska and Patricia Bartels and Donna Steinbrook of Tobias, Nebraska and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Special friends were Charles and Bernita Boesch of Blackwell, Oklahoma and the residents and staff of Cedarwood Assisted Living.

    Services will be Monday, July 25, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Tobias, NE with Pastor Ryan Meyer officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday evening from 6 ? 8 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials will go to the Family's Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  1. 8.  Miloslav "Milo" Edward Buzek was born on 24 Mar 1905 in Turkey Creek, Liberty Township, Saline County, Nebraska (son of Pavel "Paul" Buzek and Anna Marie Braum); died on 29 Jan 1973 in Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    Milo attended rural school District #85 in Saline County, and was one of three children in his family that graduated from High School. He briefly attended the University of Nebraska, but an appendix operation curtailed his education and he returned to Milligan. He worked as a meat cutter and later operated a grocery store. In 1942, he and Mildred moved to a farm sound to Milligan. Later they moved to Lincoln, where Milo worked at Cushman Motors and Mildred worked at the University. The family lived in Lincoln until 1969, when they went back to the farm he loved. Milo passed away at his home of a heart attack, and is buried in the Bohemian National Cemetery. (Milligan, p 228).

    Notes:

    Henry and Mae lived one year in Milligan, then moved to their farm six miles north of Milligan, here they farmed for fifteen years. They sold the farm in 1944 to Fred KOVANDA and moved to Milligan. There Henry worked for Edward "Swede" BULIN for one year and for Joe JICHA distributing beer for two years. He worked for the Auditorium doing custodian work for fifteen years, and last for the Kansas-Nebraska Gas Company until his retirement in 1966. (Milligan, p 354).
