Bridgett Kearney also shows multiple marriages, first to Martha Emma Vickers/Halbert Mason, a daughter of James "Gov" Mason Sr and Susannah Halbert (note differing parentage...not proven by census records, plus her DOB per Bridgett was five years prior to the marriage of her purported parents)...second to Anna FRANKLIN and third to Alice Leona Moran.

    Joseph married Martha Emma Vickers. Martha (daughter of Austin J. Vickers and Susannah "Susan" Halbert) was born on 20 Oct 1859 in Sabine County, Texas; died on 24 May 1891 in Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Susannah (daughter of Joel Halbert and Tabitha Elizabeth Cox) was born on 5 Dec 1844 in Milam, Sabine County, Texas; died on 20 Nov 1924 in Texas; was buried in Mason Cemetery, Milam, Sabine County, Texas.     Notes:

    The 1900 census shows her as the mother of 12 children, and in 1910 it was reported that she was instead the mother of 11. Both census reports indicate only 7 still living.

    Judith Denman instead shows him as a son of David Mason and Isabella Teague, and brother of John and James.

    INFO: Came to Texas through Alabama with brothers John & James. Received land grant of one league and one labor and served as Sheriff & Tax Assessor of Sabine County, TX.

    MARRIAGE: "Alabama Marriages Early to 1825" by Jordon R. Dodd & Norman L. Moyes. Wife's name listed as Juda instead of Judith.

    Notes:

    Harrison Vickers, Jr., b Ga. ca 1812, moved to Fla. in 1817 when his father, Harrison Sr. bought land in the township of Tallahasse, Leon County. In 1834, Harrison Vickers Jr arrived in Texas. In 1837, he m. Sarah Ann Mason, (b) in Ala. (the dtr. of James and Elizabeth Mason). Harrision Vickers Jr., referred to as Harris Vickers on his headright papers, rec'd his land from the Sabine County Land Board in 1838, at Milam, Texas. He was a member of the Sexton Masonic Lodge at Sexton, and after it was moved to Milam. He was a farmer and the family home was near the Old Vickers Cemetery in the Isla Community. His descendants still live on the land. (White and Toole, p 38).

    His tombstone is inscribed "Came to Texas From Georgia 1833"
