  3. 10.  Jose Garza Contreras was born on 19 Mar 1909 in Texas (son of Juan Manuel Contreras and Clemencia G. Garza); died on 21 Jan 1988 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas; was buried in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

    Notes:

When Jose registered for the World War II Draft, he listed his DOB as March 19, 1909 in Texas, and the person who will always know his address was shown as his wife, Mrs. Jessie Contreras. Their address was Box 1041, Beeville, Texas, and his employer was Howard Bros of Beeville. He listed his full name as Jose Garza Contreras, but went by Joe.

In 1930, a Jose Contrera, age 21, was living on Blanconia Road in Bee, Texas, with Antonio and Louise Contreras...parents of Henrique (age 3) and Elida (newborn). He was listed as a brother of Antonio. Other siblings of Antonio's, sharing their home, were Theodora (32), Pablo (30), Louisa (28), Domingo (25), and Francisco (21). All of Antonio's siblings were working on his farm.

As Antonio's draft registration for World War II, done in Bee County, show his parents as Juan Manuel Contreras and Domencia Garza, it is assumed these are the parents of Jose Garza Contreras as well. An 1999 obituary of Eloisa Contreras Hernandez, also of Beeville and born around 1900, also show her as a daughter of Juan Manuel and Demenica Contreras.

  5. 14.  Preciliano G. Moreno was born on 23 May 1907 in Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico (son of Heliodoro Moreno and Tomasa Garza); died on 14 Jun 1975 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas; was buried in San Jose Burial Park, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.

    Notes:

When he registered for the draft, during World War II, he listed his name as Prisciliano Garza Moreno. His address was shown as 1208 N. Flores (with 1221 Torreon first written, and then lined through). His place of birth was shown as Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. His next of kin was listed as his wife, Encarnacion Garcia Moreno, who still resided as 1221 Torreon. His employer was Carol Schea, with the place of employment noted as 1322 N. Flores.

Family Search has a record for Prisciliano Moreno Moreno, with a very similar date of birth, 23 May 1906, christening 20 May 1911 in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico. [Source: San Fernando de Rosa, Baptism Records, 1909-1913] No location of birth is shown, and the year is off by exactly one year. This Prisciliano is shown as a son of Eleodora Moreno Gonzalez and Tomasa Moreno Garza, so it appears to be the same person.

The family makeup matches the 1920 Federal Census for San Antonio, Texas, when Preciliano was living at home with his parents.

His obituary, published in The San Antonio Express News, 20 June 1975, page 28 noted he was born in Mexico and had been a resident of San Antonio for 65 years, survived by daughter Mrs. Beatrice Garcia, sons Albert Roy Moreno of San Antonio, Mr. Henry Alfred Moreno of Detroit, Mr. Oscar Alex Moreno of Wooster, OH, sister Mrs. Aurora Moreno, brother Robert Moreno and 9 grandchildren. His residence was 4110 Waikiki Drive.

*In 1930, a Juanita Garcia age 12 was living on Lockhill Selma with a younger brother, Pedro and their father, Epifanio Garcia, about 1897 in Texas. This could be a different Juanita Garcia, based on both her age (only 9 years older in 1940 than she was in 1930) and more importantly that younger sister Lenora was not in the same household. Need to verify before adding Epifanio Garcia as her father.
