    Rose Marie Cecrle

    ( August 25, 1921 - August 11, 2022 )

Rose Marie Cecrle was born on a farm near Milligan, Nebr on August 25, 1921 to Joseph and Rosie (Vejraska) Sadlo. She was the youngest of 5 children.

Rose attended grade school at climbing Vine country school., District #44 in Fillmore county. She started school early as she was always running away after her siblings and waiting for them on the school steps, so her Mother just enrolled her. Her childhood was during the depression. She said we didn't realize we were poor because everybody was. She graduated at the age of 16 from Milligan High School in 1938. Rose was proud of the fact that their class was the first to wear caps and gowns for the graduation ceremony. Rose took normal training in high school, which enabled her to teach at the age of 16, at District #44 for 3 years. She then took summer classes at Peru State College and taught another 3 years at Opossum Hill School District # 77, making life time friends of her students. She then went to Lincoln and worked as a house keeper. She enjoyed going to dances with the military boys. Rose then returned home to take care of her elderly mother.

On October 18, 1945 Rose married Frank Cecrle at the courthouse in Lincoln. Frank was 10 years older than Rose and had known her as a child. He played in a band with her brothers. He always said he had to wait until she grew up to marry her. The couple purchased a 240 acre farm east of Daykin where she resided till 2 weeks before her death. Rose helped with all the farm work: operating farm equipment, driving grain trucks, taking care of farm chores. She was an active partner, even hand picking corn. They raised chickens, and hand milked cows. She said the cream and egg money paid off the farm. They raised sheep, and later discovered she was allergic to wool. Rose always had a huge garden and canned the produce.

They raised 3 childred, Dean, Barbara, Joyce.

Rose played a very active part in her family life, taking on the role of business leader of the family and keeping detailed records of life. She was involved in her children's lives serving as school car pool driver, 4-H leader, volunteer for church and school activities. Rose was a faithful member of the Daykin United Methodist Church. She held numerous committee positions and was recognized with the Unsung Saint Certificate. Rose taught a Sunday School class till the age of 85.

Rose & Frank loved to polka and waltz. They went dancing nearly every week with friends. They enjoyed traveling and took many bus tours. Mom always said "go while you can". They even went to Hawaii for a NE football game and weren't even hard core fans. For their 50th Anniversary they celebrated with the whole family on a Caribbean cruise. Her 80th birthday was celebrated with an Alaska family cruise.

Rose was a very competitive card player and pitch was the name of her game. She was a charter member of the Daykin Senior Citizens Card group. Rose taught her grandkids and great grandkids to play pitch, muggins, Chinese checkers, and a wild game of spoons.

You were always welcomed at Rose's home and never left hungry. She was proud of her Czech heritage and was well known for her kolaches, rolls, and dumplings. It was a tradition to have Grandma's mints at any special occasion and you always took one early because they went fast. For many years her home was the gathering place for holiday gatherings, staying at Grandma's was always fun. She was adored by the grandkids and she always encouraged them and told them what a good kid they were. Rose loved to active, she lovingly embroidered quilts. She made one for each child, grandchild, and great grandchild.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband Frank, son Dean, and great grandson Samuel Gudenkauf. Her parents Joseph & Rose (Vejraska) Sadlo, step mother Frances (Kreshel) , Rudy (Maggie), Jerry (Velma), Joe, Marie (John) Stewart.
