His granddaughter, Jennifer Fawley writes that "My grandfather Wilhelm Platacis came to America aboard the Ship General J H McRae after World War II. Their family first lived in Stuttgart, Arkansas, with their sponsor, a lawyer named A. G. Meehan. They later moved to Illinois, where he worked in the Aurora Round House, working in the shop on the trains, as a mechanical engineer. Wilhelm died when my dad was in high school."

Vilhelms married Karlina Viba. Karlina was born on 16 Aug 1909 in Latvia; died on 16 Nov 2006 in McHenry, Dade County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Listed on the SSDI as Karlina VANDERS, born 16 Aug 1909 died 16 Nov 2006, last residence McHenry, Illinois. Her grandaughter, Jennifer Fawley, writes that "My Omi married Artur Vanders just about the time I was born, maybe 1970. Artur Vanders came from Latvia too. They actually all knew each other from before the war, when Artur was a chauffeur for my grandfather's truck business." Jennifer added that she had three sisters, Anita, Christina and Elsa, all whom survived the Russian and German attacks, and whose children remain in Latvia.

Karlis married Alida Abols. Alida was born about 1876 in Latvia; died about 1953 in Illinois; was buried in Lincoln Memorial Park, Oswego, Kendall County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
