James married Louise Ellen Cox before 1877. Louise was born on 28 Sep 1853 in Georgia; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Louise Ellen Cox was born on 28 Sep 1853 in Georgia; and died.

    Notes:

Her maiden name is assumed to be COX, and the widowed Mary Cox, age 66 and born in South Carolina was living with Ellen and her husband, James R. McLemore, at the time of the 1880 Jackson County, Alabama census. Additionally, a post to the Ancestry.com Message Boards>Surnames>McLemore>McLemore Family history cited the Cranford family bible as identifying her as Louise Ellen Cox.

    3. 1. William Walter McLemore was born on 5 Apr 1880 in Jackson County, Alabama; and died.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  William McLemore was born on 4 Apr 1830 in Tennessee (son of James "Henry" "Henery" McLemore); and died.

    Notes:

Patricia Mills notes that he was married three times, (1) in 1850 to a LOUISINDA, (2) before 1860 to a Surancy, and (3) on 27 April 1871 to Martha Jane Coburn, by D.M. Cowley, Justice of the Peace. On the 1860 and 1870 census, it appears that his wifes name may be some variation of Lourany/Louvany instead of Surancy, and her age is consistent from 1850 through 1870. Perhaps Patricia was mistaken and he was only married twice, to Louisinda/Lourancy and later to Martha Jane COBURN.

    1. 2. James R. McLemore was born on 6 Sep 1853 in Jackson County, Alabama; and died.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  James "Henry" "Henery" McLemore was born about 1805 in Tennessee.

    Notes:

Patricia Mills notes that his first wife, currently unknown, she was said to have died ca 1848 in Jackson County, Alabama. He later married Nancy Coburn (nee Dunham).

In a note dictated by his grandson, Thomas Dickerson McLemore, to his great-grandson, Arthur McLemore, in the 1950's , he is listed as "Henery Mc.....originally from Ireland." The 1850 census shows him as James McLemore, born in Tennessee. However, those same notes of Thomas Dickerson McLemore show that Tom's father, John was of Knoxville, Tennessee. Perhaps he was confusing the places of birth of his father and grandfather. Also, Thomas Dickerson lists his brother James as Henery, and also his grandfather James as Henery. Perhaps the two names were used interchangeably.

SEE ALSO in these files James McLemore, born ca 1805 in North Carolina. It appears that this James could be one and the same as the James McLemore who was a son of the Revolutionary Solider John McLemore of North Carolina and Knox County, Tennessee. John's son James was said to have married Hetty McDonald ca 1829 and "moved to Alabama." Perhaps Hetty McDonald is his unknown first wife.
