Val Cummings had his date of birth as 28 Oct 1928, but his granddaughter Angela Boucher says it was actually 1 Nov 1929. He died on December 16, 1993 in Hearst Ontario just a month after obtaining his Canadian citizenship in an accident while at work - the was a heavy equipment operator.

Arley married Bertha Oletta Corbett on 25 Mar 1925 in Belding, Ionia County, Michigan. Bertha was born on 8 Oct 1905 in Manitowaning, Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada; died about 1997 in Sault Sainte Marie, Algoma, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Valerie Atkinson shows him as the son of Joseph SPENCER and Almanza HOPKINS. She notes that the family bible instead shows his date of birth as May 31, 1861, contradicting the 1880 census, with a May 1863 birthdate. That same census shows his with the middle initial E.

She indicates that in 1870 and 1880, he was listed on the census in Gilford, Tuscola County, Michigan. In 1900, he was in Clayton, Arenac County, and in 1910 in Moffat, Arenac County.

Hiram married Adeline "Addie" Krapf on 5 May 1892 in Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan. Adeline (daughter of Johann Friedrich "Frederick" Krapf and Maria Dorothea "Dorothy" Benkelman) was born on 28 Aug 1870 in Cass City, Tuscola County, Michigan; died on 24 Oct 1940 in Belding, Ionia County, Michigan; was buried in River Ridge Cemetery, Belding, Ionia County, Michigan.
