Mary Ann Kronhofman was the youngest child born to Joseph and Mary (Kassik) Cecrle on a farm southwest of Milligan on July 9, 1928. She passed away on August 27, 2019 at the age of 91 years.

She attended District #39 Hillcrest Country School and Milligan High School graduating as valedictorian of her class of 1945.

After working 10 months at Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance of Omaha she returned to teach at District #5, a rural school north of Milligan for 1 year. She always took pride that she got her job in Omaha due to her good penmanship.

Mary Ann married Ed Kronhofman of Tobias on April 12, 1948. They lived on a farm six miles south of Milligan for 10 years, and then moved to the Dr. Blattspieler farm 3 miles east of Tobias on Hwy 74. After 14 years the farm was sold and they moved into Tobias. She lived there until moving to Heritage Crossings 4 years ago.

To this union 5 children were born.

Mary Ann was always busy on the farm. As a farmer's wife she had to play nursemaid to many newborn animals, did lots of gardening, cooking, baking, canning, sewing, and making crafts. Her love of animals continued throughout her life, as she always loved having a house cat. She enjoyed watching the birds at her feeders at home and at Heritage Crossings.

She worked for the Sunset Nursing home and in 1978 she started work at Peterson Manufacturing in DeWitt.

As an adult Mary Ann was baptized at the Exeter Methodist Church and was an active member at the Tobias Community Church and taught Sunday School. She took great joy in taking part in and organizing the Christmas Candle Lighting service held each year. She was a member of the 8 and 40, VFW Auxiliary and the Tobias American Legion Auxiliary. She received a certificate on her 90th birthday for over 60 years of service to our Veterans. She was also a member of the Misfits singing group, Red Hats and she enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her grand kids and great grand kids. They always brought a smile to her face.

Mary Ann kept her sense of humor throughout her illness. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Cecrle; husband Edward; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Labenz; brothers, Rudy and Joe; sisters, Emilye Cecrle, Rose (Lawrence) Krupicka and Elsie Cecrle.
