    Louise McDaniel Coussons

    Louise McDaniel Coussons, 70, of Nacogdoches died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches.

    Mrs. Coussons was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Sabine County and had formerly lived in Johnson City before moving to Nacogdoches eight years ago. She was a member of Old North Church in Nacogdoches and was a retired school secretary and legal secretary. Survivors: her husband of 51 years, Sammy Coussons of Nacogdoches, Son, John Coussons and wife Sheila of Chickasha, Oklahoma; daughter, Beth MOCK and husband Cliff of Alvin; brothers, Clifton McDANIEL and R.L. McDANIEL and wife Bonnie, all of Hemphill, sisters, Merlene DAVIDSON and Ollie Faye SPARKS, both of Hemphill; grandchildren, Wade, Jana, and Haley MOCK, and Jeremiah, Karissa, and Josh HAVINS; and sisters-in-law, Peggy DUKE, Freddye KELLY, and Loraine COUSSONS. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Buddy Pratt officiating. Interment was an Yellowpine Cemetery, Yellowpine. Services were under the direction of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.

    W. E. Coussons, Prominent Local Citizen, Dies

    William Ersel Coussons, 62, of Hemphill, died Friday at 6:15 a.m. in his home of a heart attack, while preparing to go to work. This was his second heart attack. He had one five weeks ago. He had returned to working part time at his store a week ago last Monday. Mr. Coussons was a native of Hemphill and was a prominent merchant and businessman. He owned and operated the W. E. Coussons store in Hemphill since 1929, in addition to other real property. He was, at the time of his death, a director of the First State Bank of Hemphill. A veteran of World War I, her served overseas and was in France when the Armistice was declared. Mr. Coussons was a member of the Sabine Post 197, American Legion. He had also served as a Hemphill city councilman from 1940 to 1952; as a member of the draft board, and as a trustee of the Hemphill Independent School District. He was a member of the Little Fowler Masonic Lodge. Funeral serviced were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Lovis Dunn, pastor of the East Mayfield Baptist Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clarence Howell, pastor of the first Baptist Church of Hemphill and the Rev. C. A. Bly. Burial was in the Hemphill Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Novie Pratt Coussons; three daughters, Mrs. Dan Williams of Hemphill, Mrs. Joe Neal of San Augustine, and Russell Duke of Indiana, Pa; three sons, Dr. Charles Coussons of Nacogdoches, Sammy Coussons of Hemphill and Paul Coussons of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. Dalton Smith of Hemphill, Mrs. John Bowers and Mrs. Vincent Kickerillo, both of Houston; two brothers, L. A. Coussons of Blythe, Calif., and Luman Coussons and 16 grandchildren.
