Rev. Travis Richard Wagstaff, 91, of Huntsville died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Huntsville.

Bro. Wagstaff was born Aug. 16, 1909, in Joaquin as a son of the late Richard and Lula (Permenter) Wagstaff and was a longtime resident of the Huntsville area. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville for 24 years.

Survivors: two sons, Rev. Richard Wagstaff and wife Martha of Huntsville and Rev. Robert Wagstaff and wife Diane of The Woodlands; a daughter Mary Carden and husband John of Huntsville; a brother, Robert H. Wagstaff of Bronson; two sisters, Bonnie Myers of Lindale and Oneta Hannah of Jacksonville; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Marie Wagstaff on May 24, 2001.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Madisonville with Dr. J.W.L. Adams officiating and Judge Frank Robinson offered personal comments. Interment followed at McAdams Cemetery.

At the time of the 1930 census, he was listed as a Teamster for a lumbermill in Panola County. His son Travis was shown as a farm laborer. Ten years earlier, he was in Shelby County, and listed as a farmer. Burt Wagstaff, a 73 year old widower born in Georgia, was listed as his father, and was living in his household as well.
