Linda is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Greg Soukup; 2 sons, Frank (Kim) Soukup, James (Liz) Soukup; 2 brothers, Allen Wooge, Ed Wooge; 1 sister, Carol Wooge; 2 granddaughters, Kaylyn and Jessa Soukup; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.     Frank H. Soukup
    Slain in the Line of Duty December 16, 1966

    Detective Frank Soukup was slain in a gun battle at a local motel while questioning some out-of-town suspects in a bogus check operation. Two of the gunmen were fatally wounded in the exchange of shots between the investingating officers and the suspects, one of them felled by shots fired by Detective Soukup after he was mortally wounded. It was later determined that the shots which killed the officer were fired by Donald W. Rodgers, one of the gunmen killed. Detective Soukup was the first officer in the history of the Lincoln Police Department to be slain in the line of duty.

    Frank Soukup was 53 years of age and had been a member of the Lincoln Police Department for ten years. In November of 1966 he was awarded the People and Law Award sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Frank was an outstanding police officer, completely dedicated to his chosen profession of law enforcement. His survivors include his widow and three sons.

    Bernice Dorothy (Soukup) Benes, 89, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012. She was born on March 16, 1923 in rural Hoskins to Carsten and Freida (Harms) Petersen. She was a graduate of Wayne High School. She was united in marriage to her first husband, Detective Frank Soukup in November of 1947 until his passing on December 16, 1966. Bernice then married Philip J. Benes in June of 1970 until his passing on January 20, 1997. Bernice was a member of the Capital City Czech Choraliers, and Sts. Mary & Joseph's Catholic Church PCCW.

    Bernice is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Gregory (Linda) Soukup of Lincoln, Anthony (Sandra) Benes of Lincoln, Alois (Gail) Benes of Valparaiso, Joseph (Cheryl) Benes of Lincoln, Eugene (Mary) Benes of Valparaiso, Allen (Janice) Soukup of Lincoln, Glen Soukup and significant other Trudy Townley of Lincoln; daughters and son-in-law: Mariann (Randall) Matulka of Valparaiso, Kathleen Weyers and significant other Lenice Marshall of Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Merlin (Mary) Petersen of Elmwood; 25 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren, and also brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, along with four sisters, and three brothers, and one great grandson.

    Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Sts. Mary & Joseph's Catholic Church in Valparaiso. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at Sts. Mary & Joseph's Catholic Church in Valparaiso, with Monsignor Paul Witt officiating. Interment will be held at the Czech National Cemetery in Milligan. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.     Notes:

    Lenora Faye Plunkett Wooge Kalkwarf was born on a farm between Manley and Weeping Water, Nebraska to Enos Siebert Plunkett and Lena Faye Plunkett on August 29th, 1937. Her brothers were Arthur, Donnie and George. Her sisters were Dorothy and Kathryn. In 1954 she moved to Weeping Water where her parents had a nursing home.

    She was married to Edward Wooge until their divorce. She then married Larry Kalkwarf. For most of her life she was a cook, and a fantastic one at that. One of the things that she loved best was feeding family and friends. She retired in 2000.

    In 2017 she moved to Southlake Village where she passed into God's loving arms on February 3rd, 2021.

    Over the years she made many, many friends. She loved her family with all of her heart as well as the large number of friends who came her way. She loved animals of every shape, size, and kind. Her favorite color was purple. She really loved putting puzzles together and playing games, especially cards with her friends at Southlake Village.

    Her children were Linda, married to Greg Soukup, Edward Wooge, Allen Wooge, Carol Wooge, Janice Mitzner, married to Ken Mitzner and Anna Funk, married to Gary.

    Grandchildren were Frank Soukup, married to Kimberly; Christina Thietje, married to Tyler; James Soukup married to Elizabeth; Edwin Wooge; Joshua Wooge, Tara Funk and Conner Wooge.

    Great grandchildren are Aubrie and Alexander Thietje, Kaylyn and Jessa Soukup and Evan, Corbin and Haley Wooge.

    She also had numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister Dorothy, brother Donnie, daughter Janice and great grandson Evan.

    To say that she lived life to the fullest would be an understatement.

    She was loved by all, and she will be missed.

Soukup and Anna Beznoska); died on 18 Apr 1964 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    In the book HISTORY OF MILLIGAN NEBRASKA 1888-1988 it is noted that

    "...moved to Junction City, Oklahoma, where they homesteaded and in 1909 returned to Milligan where they farmed for a number of years. F.R. managed different businesses during his lifetime among them being manager of the Jicha Central Hall and tavern. After Joseph Jica Sr. passed away, R. R. and Edward Janousek managed the place together for sometime. He also worked in the Herman Stastny tavern.

    In 1921, he moved from the farm southwest of Milligan and purchased Alois Petracek dry goods and grocery store, which he and his wife managed. Later he sold the store.

    After the Farmer's Co-operative Company was organized, F.R. Soukup and his son, Frank, were among some of the employees. At the second annual stockholders meeting, a livestock shippers association was organized and F.R was hired to take charge of this new association. At one time the Farmers Co-op Elevator shipped livestock to market for the owner. F.R. was in charge of the livestock department. F.R. and Edward Cudly also managed the Farmer Co-op at one time."

    According to his application for a Social Security Number, Frank was employed by Stastny & Vasina in MIlligan in 1940. His SS-5 also indicated that his Middle Initial, R, was just that. He did not have an actual middle name. SSN 507-18-6921.
